Do you buy holiday outfits for Church or for pictures? If so what do you do to try and save money? I found 2 dresses at Once Upon a Child today for the girls, and only spendt $20 dollars total on dresses that would have cost over $40 if I had bought them new. My oldest will also wear it at the school holiday concert.

I don't know from experiance but i am a girl always out for a bargain!!!
1) look on freecycle the yahoo group you can request things as well as offer them to others in your area
2) you could buy them on clearance the year before ( of course forbidding them to grow any bigger then the size you bought them)
3) ask around to your friends and family for hand me downs...they will want those fancy clothes to be used again too!!!

We buy dressy outfits for the kiddos for Christmas--they wear them to visit Santa, to church throughout the holiday season, Christmas Day (after they get out of their jammies), and then just to run errands whenever I get a hankering to dress them up and bask in the glow of the compliment parade! I've had success buying pretty dresses on Ebay--recently I scored a Baby Lulu ($$$) dress, hat, and shoes for $20, including the shipping. I would have paid way more--even shopping Target clearance--to buy an outfit and shoes, and the brand has great resale value.

I don't usually buy something just for the holidays...

My kids always have nice clothes though...for a variety of occasions. So when we get our picture taken for the holidays, they wear nice slacks and a button down shirt or nice sweater that they already have.

I shop for holiday dresses in advance...waaay in advance.
My dd has an outfit I shopped for (since VA) since two years ago - and it's gorgeous.
It's from Wal Mart, some of the cutest ones I think they've ever had.
It was like $3.

My experience has been that it is much easier to find fancy dresses in thrift stores than decent play clothes. DD has so many party and holiday dresses I tell her to leave some on the racks for the other girls.

Our area has a strong LDS population. We have one thrift store called Deseret Industries. Because the LDS females always wear a dress to church - and any other event at the church - that particular thrift store has hundreds of beautiful, barely worn dresses for girls. Some of the handmade dresses are gorgeous. I don't think I've ever paid more than $5 for a dress there.
