We do this too at my son's preschool. We have to try to keep it healthy too. Here is what we did this last week when it was our turn (we have to provide two snacks, beings they go all day, so one morning snack and one afternoon snack for 14 kids each snack) So I sent animal crackers and apple juice for one snack and bananas for the next. I just watch the grocery store flyers for when stuff goes on sale. I got the animal crackers and juice for $1 each and the bananas were on sale for .25 per bunch. So total I think I spent like $4. Next time I am hoping that apples will be on sale so I can get those-i can sometimes get them for $1/lb) I am just going to stock up on healthy boxed snacks when they are on sale so that I always have them on hand in case when it is our turn I forget to go to the store. Plus if for whatever reason I do not use them for preschool, they will get eaten at home. Here are some other snacks I have in mind;
Garden harvest crackers-they have banana and apple flavor, my kids love them and I always have coupons for them.
apples
cheese and crackers
bananas
teddy grahams and juice
gramham crackers
any type of cracker
I think just about anything would work. Obvisouly if you stay away from sweets (candy, fruit snacks, and cookies) than it will all be healthy. Just serve up some 100% juice with it.
