If you buy gifts from yard sales, do you find yourself feeling guilty and want to spend more on a person to make it seem right?

stevesgal, Yes I do feel guilty about things like that. I have been looking for a specific toy for my sons christmas (push car---he's 14mo now)---but I am afraid that I'll see it as a $15 toy rather than a $40 toy if thats what I get it for--you know? Atleast this is what I do when buying for someone else (we have a $20 limit at my inlaws) and if I can get a $20 gift for $10---I feel like I need to buy something else and feel like I cheated them by not actually spending $20. I am trying to readjust my thinking---but its hard. I usually just spend the $10 but fret over it!!

Gosh, my goal is to find $50 gifts for $25. It is hard at times to not feel you are cheating them, but then I look in the stores at the same thing and remember, this is what it costs. I will say, I usually do not buy presents from yard sales for others, unless they are NIB. So, the only people that end up with a few yard sale items are my kids.

Nope -- I don't feel a bit guilty! I don't buy gifts based upon price anyway. I really enjoy finding things that people will like -- sometimes that means expensive, sometimes it means cheap!

I really dislike getting impersonal gifts. I would rather not receive a gift at all if I am only getting one because someone felt an obligation but doesn't know me well! If I have to give a gift to someone I don't know well, I will usually make cookies or some other kind of treat . . . .

If you found a $100 item on clearance for $20, would you feel guilty about it? Of course not!!! It is the same principle.

I don't feel guilty either. I've been able to find some great retired Home & Garden Party pottery pieces, on ebay for less than 1/2 of what I'd have paid ordering from a party. My mom collects baskets, and anytime I find a nice one at Goodwill or a yard sale, I'll pick it up, and use it as a gift container for her birthday or Christmas, etc.

I would much rather give a gift that is personal and meaningful, whether it is at my dollar limit, or way below.....The actual price you pay for something does not affect its worth!

Not at all...why would I?

Although, when I have a set amount to spend, and I get something on sale...I will get something else to spend the amt of money that I designated. That's just the way I am. So if I decide to spend $50 on a family member, and I find something marked down from $50 to $30...I'll still spend $20 more dollars. But that's me. I'm weird that way!

I can see where you are coming from with this thought. Like with the inlaws, you're given a $20.00 limit, and usually you aim for $20.00.
