Buy generic or name brand products for as much as you can and see how much you save. You can also see if you can pull one over on a picky family member.

I can't go generic on Heinz or Miracle Whip so luckily I have those in my pantry.

Tip for cereal: transfer it into clear containers if you have picky kids who won't eat it if it's not in a certain box.

I bought the generic shredded wheat today- the kind in a bag! I did not have a coupon for the normal brand and it was not on sale- but we needed it! The regular brand was 3.99 for a box- the bag was 2.87- and to make it better it was about the size of 2.5 boxes of the normal!

I'm going to try this also. The only things I really can't go generic on is miracle whip and maple syrup. Putting stuff in clear containers is a good idea!

My DH is very picky about the national brand. I am slowly breaking him but he won't budge on Medicine. So in order to get him to try WalMart brand Nyquil I put it in his empty Nyquil bottle. The ingredients are the same so I knew it would work. He took it and got the rest he needed and a chance to feel human again. I told him what I did and after lots of grumbling and showing him the receipt and the empty bottle he now believes that it is possible to maybe even like name brands.

I refill the small bottles of Sunny D, water, and Gatorade with either the store brand or use the full-size bottles, which I can usually find a coupon for, and tap water for the water bottles. I put the initial of each child on the small bottle, when they drink it, I wash, rinse & refill and put it in the frig. They never know. The small bottles are great for lunches, and the initial keeps the germs from spreading if one child gets sick with a cold or strep or something. I've also done the cereal thing, too, it works great. Most generics are just as good and have the same ingredients if you look at the label.

I'm in on this one- I use coupons in concert with weekly sales, so don't usually buy generic. One thing I do buy is generic diet coke from Safeway. I love it!

I too wanted to add, check it all. A lot of times things can be cheaper with a coupon espically if you match them with sales!
