Churches have pancake breakfasts and chili suppers throughout the year and usually advertise for them. It might also be worth it to check out if they offer weekly suppers. Our church has a supper every Wednesday and only asks for a $2.00/person donation. This includes a meal, drink, and dessert. So for our family of 4 we only spend $8.00. You don't have to belong to the church either, anyone is welcome. We would spend more than this even if we went to McDonalds, and this is a healthier meal.

I have thought about going to church sponsered meals too. It is a great idea for sure. One, it is a great price, you are right you wouldnt be able to feed your family anywhere else for that little. Second, it give you the "night off" from having to cook.

Wow it's way cheaper for y'all than it is here. The last church dinner I saw advertised (and the cheapest one I've seen in a while) was a baked steak dinner for $9 a piece, $5 for kids under 12. That's comparable to a national chain restaurant and more than local mom/pop restaurants. If we went, it'd cost us $23 to eat -- we could go out to dinner at Red Robin and all get whatever we want for that cost (and Elijah would be able to see the big bird guy come around - his favorite part!)..

You can't find them for that cheap here either. But they usually run around 8 dollars. Cheaper for kids, usually free for under 2 or 3. I haven't been to one. Ours doesn't do one. Only the Mexico fund raiser we have every year. There is a Mexican Dinner, and an auction. I don't remember how much it cost, because I helped, so I ate free. That one is probably around 7-10 dollars.
I have always thought about going to the other organizations dinners though. Everything is included, and you don't have to leave a tip. Also you are helping out a charity.

There are some dinners around here that are around $6.00-8.00 per plate.

My daughters have belonged to a Human Rights Group at their high school that I attend and I usually bring a friend for an evening out.

I im able to support my children in their activities and have a chance to catch up with a friend.

I also do this for school fashion shows and we have fund raisers for various church groups that also include meal fund raisers. Although sometimes the meals are more expensive$15.00-20.00 per plate and they would have a wine/beer bar in addition. I realize where the money is going and budget for this outing.

Our church puts on potlucks and only ask that each family bring one dish. My family can eat buffet style and get more helpings for the price of one side....under a couple dollars and that's for a family of 4!
