Pump price to jump 20 cents next 2-3 weeks: government - Yahoo! News

If you are traveling next week start pinching pennies now because it sounds like gas prices are going to go even higher. Which leads to this question: are the gas prices affecting how much you are going to spend on Christmas presents?

Oh great! Imagine that - I hate how the price of gas has to go up around the holidays (winter too!)- not only does that affect my driving- but also the heating of my home (I use propane).

Yes the price of gas is going to effect what I spend this year on Christmas. We have a few obligatory gifts to get- but I am not going to purchase anything more (no new decorations, cards- I will use up what I have, no small gifts for my dd's friends- no gifts for my friends- etc.). I will be using the thread about making home made candy for the teachers and bus driver this year- I pretty much have that stuff on hand when it is this time of year.

Probably not Christmas gifts, but it will affect what I do after the Christmas season. We don't normally travel during the season so that helps. Most of our Christmas shopping I do with the christmas gift money my family gives to me, so our budget isn't affected too much by day to day costs here.

Gas does affect our daily life though. DH drives 160 miles (round trip) each day to work, and we are already currently spending about $400/mth in his gas. As his goes up, mine goes down ~ I just try to stay home more.

Yeah it will affect our holiday spending, money we would otherwise use for gifts will have to be put towards gas money. Especially since we are going to be driving down to Fl at Christmas to visit my family. I hate how it always goes up around the holidays.

Shopping online is looking pretty good! I have to get gas today, I'm thinking maybe I should bite the bullet and fill it up now.

oh i've noticed it is slowly been going up so i've been anticipating it. this week i won't go to town until next monday to get groceries(i usually go on thursdays) by adjusting my day i can drive one fewer day to town. we will have me drive our saturn at night to get the groceries if we have to the van(though for a 1997 gets 23 hwy) gets less milage so we will just drive the car more. and it is affecting what we are getting but luckily i have got stuff thru out the year.

We've cut back a lot on our driving (helps we're down to one car!). Will it affect our gift giving? Probably not. But we don't usually go overboard with gifts in the first place (minus my husband buying everything for our daughter under the sun). We're just making sure we're making the most of our trips.

We've cut back also! Not only are the gas and heating prices going up, but groceries too! On our local news, they were talking about how grocery stores and retail businesses are having to increase prices just to cover shipping them in. Well, when I went to the grocery store yesterday, I saw exactly that! Gosh, some prices went up as much as 50 cents!! Makes me look at that box of pop tarts a little differently! LOL!!

I also hate that I have to pay so much for gas now but to be honest, if people are still driving 100 ft to their mailbox, 100 ft to drop the kids of at the busstop (when its sunny outside) or leave their car running while grabbing something at the store the gasprices are not high enough yet!

I am covering my ears, yelling lalalalalala! We cannot afford that right now. We have one vehicle, an F-250 pickup truck. No choice in vehicle, it was given to us. My minivan broke at the beginning of summer. And it looks like our next vehicle is going to be a full sized van. Another thing I have no control over. Someone wants to let us use it. I won't be using it very much. Just church, grocery shopping, and doctors appointments. I can take the bus to anything else I guess.
