I have to say I think its a good idea!! for a starter of ideas!!
my inlaws always get gifts for the kids and they do not like them at all or they are too old for them!!
I would say here are some ideas to go on!! it doesnt nec have to be those exact but this is what they are into, that way the things they get them are things that will not be a waste of money!!

I think it depends too...I would never send anyone a 'wish' list of any kind unless they asked for information/ideas/a list specifically. Otherwise, I think it's incredibly tacky. There are people in our lives that ask specifically for a wish list for our kids for the holidays because they really want to get what the kids want and don't have kids of their own, so they need specifics.

For myself, when my MIL asks me for a list, I put down a few specific things but I also include things like "an opera CD" or "new kitchen towels". I think a list can be a good tool, but a lot of times, at least for myself, I just use it as a jumping off point.

I think it's also tacky to get registry cards with shower invitations or have it printed on wedding or birthday invitations.

A couple of years ago I decided to ask the kids and have them put it on paper what they want. Now all of the Aunts, etc. get to see what the kids really want and not get them something they don't need or want. They can take the idea and run with it or use it to buy something they think the kids would like instead. My kids like to give general ideas, MLP, Transformers, spiderman, books, cardmaking stuff, etc.

I now get lists from my neices and nephews and I LOVE it. I know what to get, shopping is easier and no one is unhappy.

I don't know about the on-line thing. I think that they should tell them or send them a hand written copy. It might seem weird at first but really you and your family will love it.

By the way when someone buys something they tell me and I (in my head of course) mark it off the list so there isn't two or three of something.

I think it could be helpful if you have grandparents on the other side of the country who would like a list. My family has always had lists - or folks calling and asking for ideas. We don't think people have to figure out the perfect gift for you - if they do, great. If not - ask for ideas or a list.

I think that a "registry" for XMAS is a little much. We have our kids tells us what they would like and we make a list for them. AS far as DH goes I would have no problem w/ that.
