I do my own hair all the time - I color it - highlight it and I have been evevry color on the spectrum. People really think it is harder than it is but it is really really easy and saves a ton of money. Hairdressers tend to make you scared of it to make you come back to them but all you need to so is do it! If you end up with something you don't like - dye it again. I once bleached my hair 3 times in one day to get black out and I never lost a strand. Your good - Do it your self and save money and if you need any advise feel free to contact me. I have 10+ years of experience doing my own and my families hair color and ave never had a problem yet.

I have done my own hair color since I was 18 (could it really be for 13 years??). When I go to get my hair cut, the stylist always thinks it's professionally done.
I have dark brown hair and would suggest using Feria. It costs a few $ more at the drugstore, but they give you an ample amount, and if you like reds, they are great. I've never had to use 2 boxes, but I don't typically have really long hair, just past shoulder length. Have someone help you the first time to learn about the tricky areas.
Feria doesn't have the best grey coverage though, that's a new area I'm entering into

I've been doing my own hair color for years. I have tried a few different brands or whatever is on sale, all with good results. I am a brunette.Sometimes i stay with light/medium browns and sometimes i go for Medium Auburn colors. Though it's getting harder lately to find one with really good lasting grey coverage, my grey's are coming in really fast in this past year!

If you decide to color it yourself be careful. At the beginning of this year I thought I wanted blonde hair well it turned the roots orange and the rest ended up dark red. I fixed it myself after alot of experimenting (my poor hair). Finally I found a box of hair dye that works great but I decided to go a darker shade of brown and it looks good. It's nice-n-easy natural instinct and on the back of the box it says that it will take out red tones. It looks natural and I love it.

I have red hair and have never colored it, but one of my best friends always changed her hair color herself and never had any probs!!! I would just try it myself if I were you. It will save you a lot of $$$.
