In a small ziploc bag or baby food container, mix:
1/4 cup oatmeal
1/4 cup sugar
sprinkle of red or green sugar crystals (for cake decorating)

OPTIONAL: You can cut a circle of cloth or felt a bit larger than the lid. Place over the lid and tie a ribbon around it to decorate. We actually used Kleenex cut in a circle and tied on with wool for the top of our lid and it turned out really nice.
(the amounts don't have to be exact)

If you use a baby food jar, you can layer the ingredients for a "sand art" look.

Reindeer Poem to go with:

Sprinkle on the lawn at night
The moon will make it sparkle bright
As Santa's reindeer fly and roam
This will guide them to your home.

My little one loves making cookies and gingerbread houses (store bought kit). She loves to make the Gingerbread house each year and I pretend not to notice her sneaking all of the candy off it So she won't be to sad about it going away we tell her that Santa will take it as a snack for the reindeer.

We also go visit a deer farm each winter before Christmas. I tell her we are visiting Santa's deer and she gets to feed them apple slices

I forgot to add we also pick out 3 presents each year for kids who have none. If you have young ones who still believe you can tell them you are getting the presents for kids who move so much that Santa does not know where to find them. We usually pick out 3 presents under $10 for a girl, a boy and a baby. Last year we did not have a lot of cash to do this so instead we went through my oldest daughter's toys and filled a laundry basket with old toys in great condition and some of left over wrapping paper from the year before and took it to a needy family we know so their daughter would get some presents

Ok, I'm still not clear on what "Reindeer Food" is.

Are they egg-washed cookies??

I hope your kids will enjoy it. Mine do so much! I'm really excited about Christmas again where I'd pretty much lost the excitement a few years ago. I hate malls, crowds, bills and adults who want to give me their "wish list" so I pretty much wouldn't really do much I didn't have to. Now I've just started making it about the time spent instead of the other stuff and I'm excited now that I know for sure that is what they care about too!

What a great reminder. I bet most of us as adults thinking back on our childhood holidays remember the traditions, not the gifts.
