I am willing to give a generic a try, especially if I have ready something about it of have had luck with that generic brand. I find the most coast savings wiht over the counter generic/store brand medicine.

I buy generic in most everything, but everyone has a favorite brand of some things!

1) Miracle Whip
2) Country crock
3) Tresseme Shampoo and conditioner
4) Crest toothpaste

I don't like a lot of food generics. I watch the bonus buys and buy things the week they are sale.. unless it is milk or something I have to have that week.

Target has a lot of good generics for paper products, medicines, etc.

I but mostly name brand b/c really I think it's much better. There are a few things I buy generic. Here are a few generics we like: Cereal for the kids, pop-tarts, sour cream, brownie mix. I think that is about all for the generic purchases. Cheese HAS to be Kraft or Sargento NO generic salad dressings (gross IMO) and NO generic breads. I do a lot of coupon clipping though!

I don't think it's snobby either. Hey, you like what you like. For me, I do almost everything generic (if it is cheaper - because sometimes it's not!). The exceptions are :

Diet Coke - love, love, love my Coke

Cottonelle (or 2nd choice:Quilted Northern toilet paper)

At first I thought it was snobby too to not buy generic but I am finding out that sometimes name brand is better. Here is what we like name brand:

Hefty or Glad garbage bags
Duracell or Energizer batteries-I got so tired of wasting $$ on dollar store ones
Hidden Valley ranch (doesnt matter to me b/c I don't like ranch but DH does)
Cokes (DH used to drink generic but now he says he no longer likes them-??)
Eight O'clock or Folgers coffee
Laundry detergent-I think that I am going to have to break down and start buying Tide again. The clothes don't look as well w/generic brand or cheap-o detergent
Diapers-I prefer Pampers but won't get them unless they are on sale. Otherwise I like Kroger or CVS brand although that may change as DS grows
Baby wipes-I was going through the generic ones very quickly and realized that they are a lot smaller and thinner. I like Pampers and Huggies wipes and usually get the kind for sensitive skin.
Shampoo/Cond.-I like Garnier Fructis or any nicer brand that I can get w/a coupon. DH has pretty short hair so he uses V05 and I usually get it when it is 70-80 cents.

Whoa I guess I kinda am a name brand snob now! But really, I try to buy everything else generic.

My family wasn't too happy about the all natural peanut butter switch either, but I had to start somewhere. The 3 year old doesn't care.
I won't buy generic ketchup. Heinz preferably, but we also get Hunts and Del Monte. I have tried a few different brands, they were all nasty, and hubby wasn't too pleased.
Cream of Mushroom soup has to Campbells. Heinz cream of mushroom is ok, but I don't normally see it in the store.
Mayo, for me just has to be real Mayo. I can't stand Miracle Whip. Too sweet. But the family loves it, so I get it for them.
Everything else is hit or miss. Somethings always taste fine to me. Like frozen veggies. Pop, I have to try different things. I love Faygo cola. From what I remember the store brand colas have been decent. I just bought some Dollar General pop today, and it was awful. Thank goodness we tried it before we brought it to the inlaws for dinner tomorrow.
I have decided to start buying better shampoo. Not crazy expensive stuff. But at least the 3 dollar stuff. I just tried sunsilk for frizzy hair, and I love it.
