My mom used to give our pets their shots. she would by the stuff from the vet and than do them at home. It would cut the bill in half by doing that.

I thought of something else we do that saves us a ton of money. I look online for their meds. My oldest has to take expensive arthritis meds daily. If he doesn't, he is miserable and it shows. The vet charges something like $4 a pill (he takes 1/4 a day), but there are websites that I have found online to get it for $1 a day, which is much more affordable.

I do the same with their Sentinel, too. It has saved me hundreds of dollars since I started doing it in 1998. The vets always hate it and start trying to guilt me by saying they can't guarantee that the dogs won't get heartworms, but I tell them I can't afford their prices and after 9 years doing this they have never had heartworms or fleas from the internet meds.

I stopped taking my pets to the vet for their annual checkups -
Instead I found that our Local Humane society Does shots and Neutering for a Fraction of the Vets cost!!

I am Taking my 3 Cats and one dog in next month , and The One Cat is getting neutered, the others are getting their Yearly shots. - it'll cost me only about 100.00!

One vet visit with shots for our Dog was - 70.00!!

I now am going to take him every other Yr. for a Checkup. since he is getting older.
I also Am not Going to Spend thousands of $$ to keep them alive as they get older

My Sister spent 10,000 on her cats Luekemia battle!! The cat was 12 yrs. old too! She died in a yr. -
I think its Kind of mean to put a Cat that old through Extensive life saving treatments.

I strongly Believe in putting an animal out of its misery in old age.

Sad - I know But , I think its Cruel to not do this.

I do not have pets but noticed there are always lots of internet freebies for pets such as dog and cat food. I also was on www.couponmom.com's site yesterday and noticed all of the free dog and cat food at Ralph's in the Los Angeles area this week. These items were absolutely free and I suspected they were probably free at other grocery stores across the US this week. I would stock up on deals like that!

There are several things that we do for our dogs and horses.

I have 2 labs that are both 90 lbs+. I can buy a 50 lb bag of Kent Feeds Active dog from the local feed store for $18.00. Saves me tons of money - I have to buy a new bag every week and a half.

I have 4 horses; 3 quarter horses and 1 miniature. Since mine are more pasture pets that we ride when we have time I only grain in the winter. We bale our own hay with old equipment that my husband has gotten free from others. Sure it requires more preventative maintenance but its free. We also hay our property and our neighbors - which is free we don't pay any rent on it or anything. It may not be primo hay but its good for us. Its all hard work but we wouldn't have it any other way.

We buy cat litter at BJ's. THe poor kitty is quite old and has gotten fussy. She refuses to eat dry food, so I have to buy her canned food. She's also really finicky about flavors. A flavor that was yummy last week will sit in her dish for two days while she cries for something else to eat this week.
But she's my cat and I love her.
