Help! My in-laws want me to get "something for myself" this Christmas and are giving me money. I REALLY want a good vacuum cleaner for my floors! I have both laminate and real hardwood , plus tile in both bathrooms. There is no carpet in the house. We have 6 cats and a big hairy dog, and lots of kids and it is always full of leaves, dog hair, crumbs, etc. I do not have ANY vacuum at the moment, and try to keep up with it with a broom, dustpan, and dustmop....this is not working.....Does anyone have a good suggestion of a vacuum they use on hard surfaces??? ( I think they are giving me around $200.00 ) Thanks!

To be honest, I use my swiffer daily because I don't want to drag out a vacuum. Works great, picks everything up etc

My inlaws have had about every variety of 'stick' vacuum known to man for their floors and they never really seem to last very long.

I would probably go with a regular upright vacuum. I have a Hoover that I use downstairs and I've had it...gosh, over 10 years now. Still going strong, picks up everything, has attachments that store on board etc

We have no carpet in our home either now. I just use a broom. I used a vacuum for awhile, but the broom and dust pan do it much better without the hassel. JMO

I use my Swiffer daily and it rocks! I have all hardwood floors and some area rugs, so I do have a vacuum and it has a hardwood attachment on it but I never use it. It's a Dyson and does work really well on all the dog hair in the rugs!

I have all types of floor surfaces at my house. I bought a very inexpensive dirt devil vac for about $50 and I LOVE it. It works on all floor levels without having to adjust for heighth. I have carpet, tile and orginal hardwood floors. It works great and you cant beat the price. I also mop the tile after vacuuming it. I will sometimes go over the hardwood floors with a swiffer mop but I bought the pad for the Orange GLO company mop and use the hardwood floor spray. It seems a little more economical because you dont have to buy swiffer pads but you can throw this one in the washing machine.

I LOVE my Dyson!! The animal attachment is the only thing I've found to work on pet hair on the furniture. It works well on hard floors which is what I have upstairs. It also works great in the basement on the carpet.

I agree about not wanting to vac everyday and use a microfiber dry mop (similar to a swiffer) from Fuller. The only difference is, I throw into the washer instead of the trash can. I also have 2 wet pads that I put on the same mop. I wasn't sure if I'd be pleased with giving up the swiffer (I'm allergic to dust and a germ freak). I don't miss the cost or the trash from the swiffer.

I have a Roomba and it's awesome on the floors. We have an old house with all hardwood floors and pergo in the kitchen and it works great. I have carpet upstairs so I just use the regular upright vac up there.
