i guess i did not miss it as much as i thought i would...k-marts if 5 bucks but there toys are way more expensive than anywhere elses. the bottom line is lay away was obviously not as big of a money maker for walmart as we think it was cause they don't have it anymore and a store out for money would not cancel a program that brought in huge dollars.

I would use layaway all the time for the kid's birthdays, back to school, and Christmas.. We use to live in a small apartment with almost no storage.. so the layaway was my closet away from home. I would make payments over time, but I would never actually pay it off (I would leave $1 owing) until the last possible day that I had to pick things up.

Thank goodness we moved here 1.5 years ago.. I have a whole storage shed in back that has all of our wraped presents in it for this Christmas!!

So, yes I miss it.. but not as much as I would have if we were still in an apartment.

We have layaway at our local Pamida (think mini-Wal-Mart) and it cost me 5 bucks, but for me it helped out a lot to space out the time frame for gift buying. *nods* They allowed 6-weeks, I think, to pay it off and my last payment will be this week. I've bought little stocking stuffers in the interim, but still am quite thankful for this layaway plan. It's worth the 5 dollars to me.

I am curious how there sales report for this Christmas will compare to years past. I know a lot of people that don't really shop there as much now because the layaway program- but then again- not too many people are buying that much this year (since the price of everything else is high) so I am not so sure it would be very acurate.
