I swear if I didn't work here I could save tons of money! I work with 6 other women. All but two eat out every day which makes me want to eat where they're eating. And someone is always selling something for a fundraiser of some sort and I kind of get pressured into buying even when I don't want/need it because everyone else is. Like I bought this TINY TINY nativity scene for 10 bucks. What a waste! DH is taking over our finances and I've asked him to put me on a budget and take away my credit card because I honestly have no will power!

Does seeing others spending money make you want to or are there instances in which you feel pressured to do so?

yes........the lunch thing is especially hard. Most of my coworkers go for takeout every day....and it's hard not to get sucked into it. I also understand the whole fundraiser thing.....we get alot of those around here. And it's not cheap.......if you buy 1 or 2 things you are well over $20.00.

Honestly, no, it doesn't make me spend by seeing others spend. Everyone here eats out most of the time but I rarely do and when I do, it's the dollar menu somewhere. And since I don't bring my child's fund raiser stuff here for them, I don't buy anything from their kids' fund raisers. Thankfully I don't get my happiness from keeping up with the Jones and have very good self control over spending.

I could see how the takeout could be tempting but try to be strong you can do it! Make it your New Years policy to just say NO

I agree with freebiemom about buying from fundraisers. I don't take in my kids' fundraisers so I don't feel obligated to buy from others. Also I don't host any at home parties ie, Tupperware etc.. and don't feel the need to spend on those either. Yes, it is hard to say no but if the money is not there it is not there. This is easier for me to accept than listening to coworkers whine/complain about not having any money and their overspending habits especially eating out. These are also the same one's complaining about their weight and being on diets too. Bringing your own lunch can be much healthier.

It used to bother me, especially when I would see other people buying so many toys and clothes for their kids. But--I have found so many different things online to make for my kids and to help me save money and I am proud of it. My kids see me making bowling pins for them out of empty pop bottles rather than buying them a cheapy plastic set and I am teaching them to be resourceful.

As for all the fundraisers and such, I don't buy from anyone unless the kid asks me. Since I decided that a couple years ago, I have only had to buy Girl Scout peanuts twice.

I admit it gets old going with people when they're shopping and I'm not. That's why we usually stay at home!

As for fundraisers -- it isn't as bad as it use to be but when my husband and I both worked with the school district ... man we got hit up for everything! Even when we worked for the group home we got hit up a bit, especially my husband, he's a softy. Now I think of it -- it's been a bit since we've switched jobs.

i'm a cashier, and i sometimes envy people who come through with carts of clothing. i know i don't need it, and a lot of it's overpriced, but i can't help sometimes wondering what it would be like to go on a shopping spree....

Yeah, It is hard. Where I work, almost everyone brings their lunch, but occasionally, one person asks if the others would like to order out. I can't pass this up!!! I buy from fundraisers generally too, since everyone bought from my dd's.

i think it is also hard. when i am at the store and i see people just throwing things in thier cart and not even worrying about what it cost and i am standing with a coupon or even checking the prices. i get so tempted but i know there is no way i could even think about doing it. i have no room for it in my budget. it is really hard. i see where you are comming from.
