Our local church is offering a 13 week program on Dave Ramsey. The cost is $94 which covers books and materials. Honestly is the program worth it? I have read one of his books and really liked his ideas. Still not on track with the program I am sad to say. As far as I got was my savings half way done and 1 account paid off. I would like to start the year off right but want to make sure the cost is worth it.

Has anyone ever attended one of these workshops before?

Absolutely. 100% Yes! Yes! Yes!

You will make that much back and much much much more once you start applying the principles. I HIGHLY recommend it. It has worked for so many people and is very practical and down to earth, good solid advice.

I have not attended a Dave Ramsey workshop, however I did do a 12 week course with our church w/ Crown Financial. The course was definately worth it! We were able to apply many of the things we learned right away.. and I KNOW that with what we learned about making a spending plan (budget) has helped us pay off almost 8k of debt in the past 2 years.

But, the workshop is only worth it if you are willing to put in the work!

We just finished the 13 week course at our church in November. It is well worth the time and $. His books are awesome but, seeing him speak through DVD is much more empowering. I don't know if I would have been able to follow his plan with gazelle intensity by only reading the book. Definitely take the class!!!

I've never been to a workshop. Do you get new information there that you don't find in the books that you check out for free from the library?

He is a very inspirational speaker, I'm just not sure if there is additional info in the workshops.

I had the opportunity to take the class a while back but didn't because DH wasn't available to take it with me! I really think if you're married you should try VERY hard to get your hubby to take it with you! If not then I would do it!

My sister did take the course and she invited me to come to a couple with her! I LOVED it! I love Dave's book but just seeing him was great! They also have a workbook to take notes in! They made copies for me during 1 session. It was the session on Insurance! I wasn't really as excited about going to that class since I already have life insurance and it's term - not whole, but I learned A LOT! He explains things SO clearly! It's also fun to break off into groups after and talk about it!

If you can afford to take it, I would! If you're married I'd take your husband, but if not you might consider taking a friend! It's fun to have someone to talk to about it! My sister and I have had MANY conversations about our own finances since going to these classes!

DH has already said he will not go. What a you know what! Sorry. I think it would be good for us and he thinks it will be a waste of time and money. I called sis and she thought about it but local for me is 9 mile drive and for her it is closer to 45 one way so she was not really interested. Not that I can blame her that is a long drive after a meeting gets over at 8pm.

I really do want to try it. Could someone kind of fill me in on the topics discussed in this meetings? Someone above mentioned the first meeting was about insurance. Is that all that is discussed in that meeting?

If you can't get your husband to go with you it's probably still good for you, but I know Dave wants both partners in a marrage to be on the same page financially! I guess though if he refuses then doing it yourself will be the next best thing! I don't know though - Like I mentioned above, I've only been to a few of the classes! (Maybe someone who's done it can tell you whether or not it's worth it without your DH)

I got this off his website...

In this lesson, Dave explains the Seven Baby Steps that will guide you throughout FPU. You will also learn the three key reasons why you should save money—and why you must start now!

Working in Your Strengths
This lesson will show you how to avoid dead-end or mind-numbing jobs and provide tips for job hunting, writing a résumé, and acing an interview. Plus, you’ll learn tips for finding extra jobs if you need cash to attack your debt snowball.

Real Estate and Mortgages
Dave draws on over 20 years of real estate experience to teach you how to win when buying or selling your home. Plus, he’ll dissect all of the common mortgage options available today, showing you what to choose—and what to avoid.

The Great Misunderstanding
Warning! This lesson will challenge the way you think about money. Dave will show you how generous giving can completely revolutionize your attitude and improve your finances, business and relationships.

I'm not sure why, but I'm not seeing Insurance there - I just found the notes I took from the insurance class and the one I went to was called "Understanding Insurance". Hmm...

I think I read somewhere that you might be able to check some of these DVDs out of the library - although I've never looked into it so I'm not sure! I probably should though, cause I'd love for my DH to watch them!!

Dave is a VERY good speaker - he'll keep you laughing even thru the topics you'd normally think would be boring (like insurance). He's very motivational, so if you're having a hard time getting motivated it might REALLY help!

HTH!
