so here is the deal i have visa gift cards from christmas that are just sitting here since we literally have not been spending any money...well fareway(grocery chain) has boneless skinless chicken breast (you have to get 10lbs at a time) for $1.59 a lb with store coupon. i think i'm gonna spend it i don't know if it counts but that is cheap for us and we eat alot of chicken(thats the only meat one of my ds's will eat). so i think i'm gonna use my visa gift cards and get the limit of 20lbs for the freezer.. i'm struggling with weather i should do it or not but dh says that is cheap and we would be stupid not to and that we are not using any money from the checkbook we are just using some resources... so my guilty gut is gonna buy the chicken!!! i know we have to define whats a want and a need for ourselves but geeze i just feel terrible and i'm not even using any money ugg.. dh just says i'm a cheap ass lol! thanks for letting me ramble lol...

See I don't think you should feel guilty with this at all. Now if they were having a sale on twinkies - that would be a different story. Whether you use gift cards or not, you will eat the chicken, it's healthy, and you will pay more when you need it later on. IMO ~ using the gift cards in this case is a wise use.

Go for it! I really like kellyandkay's example that you aren't buying a bunch of Twinkies.

If it is something that you eat a lot, then get it. You will have to buy it anyway and will just have to pay more later.

Personally, I would jump on that deal...that is a great price for chicken breasts!

Chicken is a must at that price. It is a health food so I would go for it and it should be put on the approved list. Besides if you are going to buy chicken at a higher price later you should do it now.

On a personal note I haven't seen chicken that cheap in a long time. The best it gets around here is $1.99 a pound.

I would definitly do it...Don't forget part of the purpose of the spending freeze is to SEE where YOU can make changes, and to make you STOP and THINK about your purchases (learning between a need and a want) and you are obviously doing that...Like Kelli said...it's chicken not twinkies
At that price I'd be jumping on it too..so added bonus to you for using a gift card!

thanks ladies you are right its not "twinkies" as kelly put it... i just tend to be cheap in nature so i struggle with buying anything anymore cause i don't want to be justifying stuff that is not needed.. its a good deal and i'm gonna take it and not worry or stress over it...

Yup go for it. I spent money yesterday that I hadn't planned on, because cheese was on sale. We eat a lot of it and it didn't make any sense to me to skip it this week, and then pay full price in a week or so. That's just being smart and frugal all at the same time.
