I used to not like going there but now I really do hate them. I bought a mattress cover for our bed and it doesn't fit. Anyway, I was out running around and stopped in another store to return it. I paid $38.74 for it at the Walmart closest to my house and the Walmart another mile away sells it for $33.24. THAT IS $5.50 difference and the stores are about a mile or two apart! GRRRRRRRRRR...The lady said that the store's demographics are a more hispanic population therefore the prices have to be lower in this store. I was shocked and then ticked off first at the principal of it then at the fact that she stood there and acted like it wasn't even a big deal to say it out loud! The customer service lady basically told me that because I shopped in a store located in a primarly white neighborhood I should expect to pay more! So this got me to thinking about a bike we purchased, a DVD player and a 37inch television we bought all at Walmart in December. I got the receipts out of the Christmas envelope and checked the prices at the cheaper store and found out that I OVERPAID $164.39 on just those three items! I still have the boxes and rest assured I'm taking it all back to the store and will repurchase them all at the cheaper store. That is just so wrong! One mile does not equal $164.39 and since when does it become ok to charge someone more/less based on demographics within a 1 mile radius???

WHAT?!?! How can they legally charge different prices for the same items within one company? I don't get it. I'd take your receipt and ask for a manager for sure. Take it to the general manager at that!!!

I will have to check the prices the next time I go. We have 3 Walmarts near us and I have never noticed this!

The Wal-Marts around us have different prices on things so we just know which one to shop at for what we're looking for. Some things aren't that much different in price that it is worth the gas to go somewhere else. I never asked but always assumed that the reason you were given was the reason as the "nicer" neighborhood has most of the higher prices.

Instead of returning the items, how about taking your receipts and asking for refunds in the amount you overpaid? If that doesn't work, then return them and re-buy. Personally, I wouldn't want to have to box them up and lug them back to the store if I didn't have to.

Our local news had a story about this last year, it happens with all the stores not just Walmart!

r u sure the prices r the same now as in December.
99% of the time, the prices will drop after December for after XMAS Sales and such...
Keep in mind, the prices now, may not have been the prices at that store in December.
Still, it's morally wrong to charge more to one type of population just because they asume that they have more $$$.
However, I have been in Hispanic stores kind of like a walmart, and I was shocked to find that the prices were MUCH HIGHER THAN IN OTHER STORES. a lot more expensive, like furniture and such.

I noticed this at the 2 closests Walmarts to me- I am closer (mile wise not time wise, more traffic going to this one!)to the one that charges more and rarely marks down anything- then the other one is in a different county (where there is a 1% more sales tax) where the prices are cheaper and they have good clearnace sales. I know the one that is "closest" to me is in a "higher income" area and the other one was built near a lot of the "lower income" area. Pretty sad huh?!

I have noticed the same thing. In a town about 45 mins away, their Walmart is a lot cheaper than the one that I shop at. I asked if they would adjust and pay me the difference, and they will NOT price match between their own stores! WTH?????? Infuriating, I know.

Our walmarts here do the same thing, have differernt prices. But, did you know that convenience stores also have different prices??? Some convenient stores are "discounted" stores even though they carry the same exact thing. I buy milk from Alsups because it's only $3.00 and I get milk stamps towards a free gallon. I went into another Alsups that I normally don't go to and sent my ds's in to get the milk with $3.00. They came out and said they needed 69 more cents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 WHAT~~ So when I asked the clerk what was the difference, that's the explaination he gave me.
