I have AAA insurance through my house insurance. Everyone knows that you must have a membership and pay $48 a year. Does anyone else have a membership and if so do you save enough to make it worth the fee? And what do you use it for? Thanks for any information.

I have AAA Insurance for my vehicle and homeowner's insurance. I used to have AAA membership but when it expired I have never renewed my policy. I think that it would be worth it if you ever locked your keys in your vehicle or was stranded on the side of the road. I did lock my keys inside once. I think that the locksmith charged like $50, so I was thankful that I had my AAA membership.

The basic is good. Like $40-50 for 2 people (same household) but then if you have all 3 ins (car, home and lock out) its like 5-10% off each premuim. We did this to save on hotels and such the first yr. Then a friend told us about the gold. 4 things per person and 100 mile tow. Well 2 weeks after we got the gold we broke a belt on freeway 98 miles from home. the shop didnt have it. We called every where for 2 hrs. (Easter Sunday and nothing was open) Finally just called AAA. (My DH thinks he's superman and can do it.) I wouldn't want to think of a tow bill for that! So I just keep it! Nice too cuz it's 30% off glasses and we don't have vision insurance. They credited us for not using ours last year so this year is $2 premium.

We have a AAA membership. I think we have either the gold or platinum. It's about $120 a year. Totally worth it for us. Can't tell you how many times we have used it for emergency towing, locked keys in car, locked out of house, emergency towing for someone besides ourselves, AAA discounts on hotels and restaurants and entertainment, etc.

And since we drive to visit family a lot who live more than 100 miles away from us, the 100 mile towing package has come in handy more than a few times.

I underwrite policies for AAA so I know lots about the membership.
It really has saved me lots of money. if you have the AAA Plus or platinum specially, because here in cali the tows can be very expensive. not only tows, but if you lock your keys in your car,run out of gas, batterydied, flat tire the membership is for you, not your car, THAT MEANS THAT YOU CAN USE FOR IN A RENTAL CAR, ON VACATION, FOR A FRIEND ETC.
*they also have great rates for cruises, vacations, etc. they will plan it, map it, free maps,
if you need help buying a car (new or used)
*I have asked places if they give AAA discounts, and they have given me additional disc. even if they normally do not.
it's really worth it.

I have had an AAA membership ever since I started driving because my parents did. DH and I have the one with the extended tow service, too. The peace of mind it brings to me is tremendous, as I'm the one towing the kids around and DH works about 30 minutes away. In my old car, I did breakdown once with my baby and toddler. I don't know what I would've done if I couldn't have called AAA.

I just booked our Disneyland vacation through them after spending several hours online and on the phone to find the deal that would give us the most bang for our buck. In the end, it was AAA. They offer a lot of discounts on goods and services, but I forget to use it. Thanks for the reminder!

My sister and I went to the NYS fair years and years ago and the van broke down 99.9 miles from our house. No joke.

The same happened with me - I was driving my MIL's van and the brakes seized up and the wheels got all screwed up and I was stuck on the back country roads at 10:30 at night in the freezing cold with my toddler DS and no cell phone. Luckily a very sweet couple stopped to help me and I called AAA and they came and towed me home.

I've had AAA since I started to drive - it's just the way our family does it. My parents buy us membership every year as a Christmas present. It's one of the only things that is more than worth the money you pay for it. We've used it SOOO many times. From locking the keys in the car, to DH leaving the lights on and draining the battery to accidents. They came out once and disabled the alarm we had on the car because it was keeping the car from starting and we couldn't figure out why. We've always had good prompt service and you can use it whenever, wherever you are. Check out their website to see where else you can save - from target.com to Napa Auto Parts, DirecTV to the Hard Rock Cafe and more..

I have a AAA membership bec. i have auto ins. with them. However, even if i was to cancel my insurance i would still keep the membership. It has saved me from a lot of headaches, and i even helped out my mom a couple of times (so AAA towed her car, and she didn't have to pay anything) I think, even though it might seem like a luxory, to me it's a necesity. I have an 18mo. and a 3mo. old, and i don't want to have to ask a stranger for help if i ever need the assistance.....
