I keep hearing negative things about the economy ...are ther any positives to a recession? I just like to look a the whole picture and really would love to hera any good thoughts should we really go into a deep recession/depression...

One goopd thought for me is that I am pretty sure DH'd job would be relatively safe.

I just saw this question on GMA this morning and the answer was , Yes. Stocks are priced low now and it's a great time to buy. These companies are going to be around a long time. There have been 7 recessions between WWII and now and the economy has always rebounded. Stocks are on sale. This is the time when you can make big money. Invest now for the future, and the investments you make now while they are on 'sale' (valued low) are going to make you big money.

We just refinanced our home because the interest rates are so much lower right now.
Now we pay almost $ 200 more a month but we'll be able to pay off the house in 15 years instead of 30 years.
Does that count as positive?

Yes, a recession (or depression) is a great time to snap up bargains - not just stocks but other collectibles. The key, however, is you have to have the CASH to make the purchase. Getting into debt is a huge mistake.

Also, certain recession-proof businesses use this as a good time to grow because labor is cheap and their product is one of the few items still in demand.

I think there is. You don't want prices to keep climbing higher and higher and this gives a bit of an adjustment. Or for the building industary -- we don't want a country that is wall to wall houses. At some point, when you continue building and building and building, you have more houses than you have people wanting to fill them -- or at least people able to afford to fill them.

I think a lot of people already pointed out some of the good things that can come of it. I saw a little blurb about oil going down to $86 a barrel- who knows what it is right now- but anything less than what we are paying would be wonderful! It would be a wonderful to have the money and buy a house at the lowering finance rates.

The one positive thing that I wish is bestowed on all of us is making the best of each one of our money situations. Stretching our money as far as it can go, knowing for a fact that we can go without certain things, appreciate the smaller things in life and hopefully forget the Joneses!

I think it will teach people how to budget better and make due. I think it teaches a lot of personal lessons.

As painful as it is, sometimes we do need a shakeup. There are some who will win or are recession proof, but it wouldn't be called a recession if there weren't more people hurt than helped. People out of work because companies can't keep it going. I fear this could be bad, really bad.

A recession makes people go back to the basics. That is a positive.
