What does the store mean when they say they'll double a coupon up to $0.50? I thought it meant that if the coupon was for $1.00 (for example), they'd take an extra $0.50 off, not $1.00. I bought 2 things with coupons at Kroger. One coupon was for $0.50 off, the other $0.75. When I looked at how much extra they took off, it was only $0.50, not $1.00. Did the cashier make a mistake or do they just not double coupons that are over $0.50?

Thanks!
Michele

In my experience if it says up to 50 cents it means that you can only use coupons for 50 cents or less. So the total for the coupon would be for $1 off. Hope that makes sense. Check with the store to see if they have restrictions.

That's my understanding as well, but you need to make sure that your coupons don't say DO NOT DOUBLE. Sometimes they say that, and will only be redeemed at face value.

When a company (let's say Kroger) says they will double a coupon up to .50 it means that you get face value and they will give you face value again. Kroger will get the first .50 plus .09 from the mfrg. and the other comes from Kroger themselves.

My experience is they won't double a coupon if you they are going to pay you to take the item. For example if you buy an item for .79 and you have a coupon for .50 you will get the mfrg. coupon of .50 and a store "double" of .29.

HTH.

I think this isn't the norm, but at Safeway they just give me $2 (the max that can be doubled) each time. They don't even look at the coupons I have. I always give them ones taht can be doubled though.

That's what it looks like for Kroger, specifically. At Publix, I've only used $0.50 or less coupons, so I'm not sure about them. Thanks so much!

If they advertise double coupons they do it automatically (always double check though , I know when one store here does their triple coupons the registers have to be set for it, otherwise it just doubles (that is an everyday thing at that particular store).

Some stores don't double coupons at all, so if you don't see it advertised, make sure you ask if they do beforehand.

you need to scan your card before handing over coupons. Coupons will not double unless you have your card and have it scanned. Learned this lesson the hard way. Then the computer will double automatically. You will not get any overage thou.

Around here, most stores will double the value of a .50 or less coupon for a maximum of $1 off. They will also increase the value of coupons greater than .50 up to $1 off.
For example, a .30 coupons results in .60 off; a .50 coupon results in $1 off; and a .75 coupon results in $1 off.
