Good story on CNN about a couple that could have been Mommysavers!

Retired at 40 - February 1, 2008

Sorry! Didn't mean to post it twice. I don't think I have the authorization to delete the extra thread.

Good article. I'd love to retire early, but with no pension in our future we'll have to do it the old fashioned way (so it won't be happening anytime soon)! I like seeing people sacrifice and be smart with the money they make. Inspiring!

Yes, the retirement pensions are pretty good! But still, I like seeing people be smart with their money, and they seemed pretty frugal.

Not too many places have retirement pensions like the military!!! My dad was in the Air Force for 34 years (could have retired looong before he did) He acheived the highest rank possible and retired getting 90% of his active duty pay as a pension !!! Then he went to work for the state of Texas. Retired from there after 10 years and gets a pension from there too!!! Great for them. However, most of us live in the private secotor where pensions like that are unheard of. Plus, being 43 and 45, I cannot imagine my dh and I being retired!!! We both work hard so that my children (ages 4 to 21) can see that hard work results in reward. Being as this couple is retired military, they also do not have to worry about their health insurance. This would also be a big worry in the private sector.

Pension or not, these people were smart and driven. I have to admit when I read about the mom studying for her exams and their daughter turned up missing looking for her at the base ... I don't know if I could have gone through their plan either. The kids are only little once.

But it still was a neat article -- thanks!
