Can anyone tell me more about Angel Food Ministry? I have a host site close by. I was just wondering about the quality of the food. I am thinking of placing an order in February.

Usually the quality is pretty decent. The beef ribs sometimes haven't been that "meaty," and there's one type of chicken nuggets (can't remember how they're listed but they're not the strips) that can be very small. Overall, it can be a good value for your money. We buy the Angel Food unit and occasionally the specials; we like it. Some months have better menus than others.

I'm glad you found this - it really helped us when we got the boxes! The quality of food is good. They give off-brand things, but I've always found them to taste good. Their meat is very good; tender and flavorful. We like their bacon-wrapped filets on the grill. Yum! I don't think you'll be disappointed.

By the way, welcome to Mommysavers! Good to have you here - hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

We liked their food and still have some in the freezer that we are eating. They did raise the price, which went from $25 for the regular box to $30. I don't think it is worth $30, but it's the special boxes (meats) that you can add on that make it worth it. But you have to buy at least one $30 regular box to be able to buy one of the special boxes. We were really impressed with it at first, but I'm pretty sure I can do just as well shopping sales and using coupons at the grocery store. One thing we liked was getting the Angel Food and having a good stock of meat that would last us almost the whole month...it really cut down on us making quick trips to the store, or ordering out. I can see it being a good deal for some families, and like a previous poster said, some months have better menus than other months.

Angel Food is awesome! Our church is a host site and we buy a box every month. For the most part it is off brand items, but there are brand name items alot of times as well. The food is good. Sometimes, as earlier mentioned, the ribs or chicken (like fried chicken) isn't very meaty though. We have a large family and eat all three meals at home every day so we use the entire box each month. But my sister who has a small family and eats out two or three times a week, a box will last them longer. My hubby's tip for Angel Food is have a fry daddy. Alot of the meat, mostly the chicken, is better deep fried.

I miss the Angel Food pies!! I love those pies, but we haven't gotten any for awhile. Mmm..yummy!

It depends. Do you have an Aldi's or a dented cans type food store within driving distance of you? I have to drive an hr each way to get to either but still I think I can get more for my 30.- if I do the shopping. When I did Angel Food Ministry I thought the quality was pretty decent.

Does anyone on here work at their angel food ministry location..

I have taken a HUGE step and have become co-chair of our new site.. I'm interested in talking to someone about your set up on delivery date, how many people work that morning and how you collect money ect..

For those of you that get Angel Food~ Do you have to pay cash, do you drop it off or send it in? What time is the pick?

We were just approved and it looks like April will be our first delivery.. I am so excited! What a wonderful thing to provide to a community that needs it..

I don' work there- but they set up the delivery dates for you. When people pay (you have to pay before the delivery date- I believe it is 1-2 weeks prior) it has to be either cash or food stamps (I think it's ebt).

When I went to our local one (found I can get the stuff for the same price cheaper if I just go shopping now that they raised their prices) they had 2 people at the front desk (to check off your name), 1 person to take you to the pick up and then they had an assembly line, you placed your box on the table and each person would put in a different item (or 2), then they would have 2 people to check off what you have (to make sure you recieved everything) and if you ordered an special- they had 2 people there who would grab it for you. They also had someone there for if you wanted to preorder the next month's food. Oh- they also had like2-4 people that would assist people to their cars- offer to help carry and so on.

HTH!

We do ours alot like KathrynHannah mentioned. We have those long table (several of them put together so it is really long) and the items are seperated there. Ex: all of the cereal boxes in a stack, all of the canned pears in a stack and so on. There is someone when you first walk in to check you off and give you a ticket. The ticket says how many regular boxes and what specials if any. Then you take your ticket and box and walk through the line. There is a person for each different item. They hand you the item and you put it in your basket. Then at the end is another table with the specials and if you have a special on your ticket you go there and get it from them.

As for the money part of it, I don't touch that, but I do know you have a deadline to pay (something like two weeks before delivery) and a pick up. Our pick up is 10:30-11:30. We don't go past 11:30 at all. You have to be on time. Any boxes that get left over (unless they called ahead of time) get donated to a family in need. Haven't had to do that yet, but those are the rules.
