We had the kids all loaded up. My four boys were going to wrestle in a tournament about half an hour from our house. We had my grandson with, so we had both vehicles. We got about 3 miles north of town and my van went clunk and died!!! Thank God we were following dh because the wind chill temp right now is about -30!!! Dh loaded all 6 kids and himself (somehow!!) into his Cavilier!! He took them back home while I stayed with the van and called AAA. They were experiencing higher than usual call volume so I was on hold for 15 minutes. Dh came back for me (dd is 14 so she could watch the little ones). My van is sitting at the repair place waiting for tomorrow and a diagnosis. I have a bad feeling it is going to be alot. We may just have to replace it!!! It is 9.5 years old now!! Ugh, we just paid $650 on dh's car and we are getting his brakes replaced on Thursday. We really wanted these cars to last at least a couple more years!!! Ugh!!! It is not going to totally break us if we have to replace it, but man, we just can't get ahead!!!

Hopefully the bill isn't too much. I'm sorry that happened to you. Doesn't it feel like you just can't catch a break.

Darn, Sheryl, i wished we lived closer. My dh knows how to do brake jobs, he did mine for me, it only cost us the price of the parts. I hope your van is okay and it's something minor, maybe it's just overly cold or low on antifreeze, or maybe a clogged filter of some kind?

I feel for you we have to get car repairs this week. One piece of spending less advice, get them to do you qoutes for the parts and ask for the parts names and numbers, then look on ebay. Or tell them that you don't mind if the parts are reconditioned.
When my DH's Jeep need a new starter moter he was quoted $1500.00 to fix it. $1000 for the part (it had to come from the states so 'it has frieght costs and the $ difference' I know that won't apply to you but wait....) and $500 for labour. DH looked online, found Mopar sold them and we got it 4 days later for only $340.00!!!! It came with instructions how to install it and DH did it himself in under 15mins. Soo we literally saved thousands. We do this all the time now, and our new mechanic gives you the option to either have 'named' parts or reconditioned. Reconditioned are about 1/3 the cost of the branded parts. Hope that helps.

I'm sorry too. Hope it's something that can be easily and not as costly to repair. Like MelsB said, at least your husband was behind you when it happened.

That stinks. I hope it is nothing too major. I can't imagine trying to go anywhere in weather like that! You are one tough cookie. I don't know how y'all do it with kids in winter weather like that.

I am really sorry that this happened to you. I hope that things turn out ok. Let us know what the repair man says. Hopefully it is something simple.
