So my husband and I have two savings/checking accounts. One at the place where I worked before I became a stay at home mom (Merck), and PNC. That being said the PNC one is just for our travel fund. Does ING Direct let you seperate your money into two accounts, so technically I could have my money pooled there, but it would look like there was two seperate bank accounts? Sorry to be so confusing but having two accounts in different places is driving me bonkers. I don't want to give up my Merck one because if I bounce a check it's only three dollars, my credit card is through there, and it has a 9% interest rate. Also, they waved interest payments from Dec-Feb!! You can't beat that service, haha.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like Merck is a credit union account. If so, I imagine it is very difficult to give up. Since they have given you great service in the past, contact them to see if you can open another account for savings. If you do on-line banking with Merck, you'll even be able to transfer money between accounts - making your life VERY easy.

ING direct recommends keeping a bucket account for deposits and things that you NEED to do at a branch. For example, you might want to get more cash out than your limit at the ATM, safe deposit box or cash savings bonds. It is a good thing to keep your bucket account and tie it to your ING account. As for any specifics, you can call ING and ask. They have WONDERFUL customer service. You can set up as many accounts as you want and transfer money between them.

Ing lets you set-up sub-accounts. You can give them names, ie: "emergency", "vacation", etc. It's all one account, but you can designate how much of the total goes to each sub-account.

That is so neat! I was wanting to move more money over there for various savings categories and this will make it much easier! I need to figure out how to set that up. Thank you for sharing!

Am FYI/side note, they do a credit check if you ask to open a checking account.
