I used to buy alot of organic products but we have had to cut that out of our grocery budget bc food costs have increased so much!

Has anyone else had to cut out organic products from their budget?

I cut them long ago. I still buy my hormone antibiotic free milk though, because when I drink the other stuff I feel sick.

I still get organic milk, but that's about it.

I agree it sucks. I'm taking some money from that rebate check and stocking up on as much as I can at Aldi's.

Yep prices are going up. Coffee was $9 a can for Folgers or Maxwell House here in Nebraska. A grocery manager tells me tomatoes can be up to $5 a lb. Well, we will grow our own in the spring or not have any at all.

I know one thing, with food and fuel prices continuing to increase, I am planning to really work hard on my vegetable garden this year, and can and/or freeze as much as I possibly can. I've already been trying to plan on putting in a small raised bed, just so I can plant a nice salad garden with lettuces, radishes, and green onions.

I have noticed the increases too, and it is so upsetting because everything is going up except for our paycheck. We have started shopping at Aldi for our basics, which seems to help...milk is only $2.75/gallon and butter is $1.85/lb. Bread is 69 cents a loaf...snacks cakes for hubby's lunch are 99 cents and potato chip 99cents ...so it's good for that kind of stuff~basics and junkfood.

I have been cutting some of it out. I was spending $200 + a week and buying a ton of organic. That is just TOO much money for groceries so I have cut back this month and kept my weekly bill to $150. I am still buying organic milk and eggs and produce and some boxed and frozen things (I am just trying not use as much of them since they are total convenience items that are so overpriced, but they keep me from driving through and getting Chick fil A for the kids when we are busy or tired) like edamame and Amy's stuff and Annie's mac and cheese, but I have cut out the organic butter, cheese, crackers, cereal, and snack foods. I simply can't justify it right now with prices so high. I used to not really pay attention but when I started really looking I was blown away. $7 for 4 sticks of butter? I don't think so....

Just chiming in with a "I feel the pain." I can't believe the price of eggs! My kids love scrambled eggs for breakfast, but that is fast becoming a treat. My daughter wanted to make a cake that took 6 eggs and I had to say no. I felt really bad about it too, but at $2 a doz, what can you do?

From CNN:

wholesale prices have risen over the past 12 months by 7.5%, the fastest increase since the fall of 1981, when the country was in a deep recession.

(There was a 1% jump in January alone and a 2.6% jump in November. December showed a 0.3% drop but not enough to erase these gains, obviously.)

We have some major expenditures coming up so I redid our food budget. when I got to the salsa, I noticed that the brand I prefer was $2.19 but the store brand was only $1. for that kind of savings, I can handle the difference in taste. I was proud of myself overall until I got home and realized that the whole wheat hamburger buns that I grabbed were $3.49!!!

It is so ingrained (HA HA) in me to buy whole wheat, but for once, I think I could have skipped those benefits and saved a bundle.
