For those who miss their oj, look into frozen. It is usually around $1.32 a can and that makes about 2 qts. Compared to $2.50 for the same size of concentrate already made and even more than that for fresh squeezed.

[quote=semsal]I've cut out other areas so I don't have to alter my grocery shopping. No more Starbucks, magazines at the check-out, lunches out, or drive-thru dinners. We have saved so much money with these cut backs. What's even better is that I'm losing weight!
STARBUCKS & PANERA!!! - not that I spent every day at either place - I have made a conscious decision not to go to either. Now I just wish I could get my dh to stop smoking!!! I cringe on how much money he spends there!!!

I buy the concentrate in bulk, but it's a little too tart, so I add a little sugar to take the edge off. I also add a little less water to make it taste more like fresh squeezed. My family enjoys it!

I am trying to use a lot fewer eggs weather for bfast or for baking. I have been purposely making baked goods that are low or fat free just so I don't use eggs. For those of you who don't know, If you are making a fat free cake by subbing applesauce or ff yogurt for the oil, you can omit the eggs. So! That is what I do. When I do have a recipe to make that calls for eggs, I use this stuff called egg replacer. You can get it at the health food store or probably your grocery store if they have a health food section. It is about 5 dollars a box and is equal to using 9 and half dz eggs. It is a powder that you use in place of eggs in your baked goods. I started using it origionally for my ds who is allergic to eggs, but now I use it because it saves money in the long run.
ONce my supply of splenda is gone, I am going to go cold turkey and just use sugar, but limit it for my waist sake. I can't afford paying 5.24 for something equal to 5lbs of sugar I usually buy on sale for $1.50.

I stopped buying snack foods, juice(we are drinking alot more water), canned soda and most convenience foods. I also only buy fruits in season like oranges. Which stinks because I am really craving cantelope but I just cant justify spending $3-4 a melon.

We've been doing at lot of the stuff that has already been posted, but also, not making so many trips to the store. We shop one day a week now (use to be like 3 because we always forgot something.) Making a list of the necessities and only buying them! If its not on the list we don't buy it.

A lot of the things mentioned. I bake because the bread here is usually stale and close to $3 a loaf for the cheap, white junk. I also use soy flour to replace the eggs when I am baking (1Tbs soy flour + 1 Tbs water=1 egg). I also bake muffins, dinner rolls, pretzels (the bread kind), plus cookies, granola bars and cupcakes. If the kids want junk food those are the things they can have. We also started making popsicles and popcorn. I am planning on doing a container garden with tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers and hot peppers to help cut costs. I have cut soda but my husband drinks gatorade so I bought a case at Sams and saved some of the bottles and am refilling with the powder. Weekly I have a bean meal (chili, lentils, ham and bean soup, pinto beans, navy beans, etc.), a mexican or asian meal (bean and cheese burritos, tacos, stir fry, soy sauce chicken soup) which uses only a small portion of meat, a pasta night which may or may not include meat, and a breakfast night (omelets, pancakes, hashbrowns and bacon or sausage). Rarely do we have a big hunk of meat now, it is more like a stew, soup, or casserole with lots of veges, rice, etc and only a little meat. Also, fruit is whatever is on sale or cheapest and I often turn these into fruit cobblers, fruit crisps, smoothies, yogurt toppers or muffins if/when they start getting bad places.

Unfortunately, we have had to cut out the fresh fruits and fresh Veggies..but the prices are highway robbery and just plain wrong but I can't bring myself to pay that much when I am wrong so hard to save $ on the rest of my groceries. The scales are showing a difference also because I have gained weight!
