Maybe this can help also. I have tried it and it is great!

GATORADE MIX

4 1/2 CUPS SUGAR
1TBS SALT
3 PKG KOOLAID LEMON LIME(Or what ever flavor you want)
4 PKG KOOLAID LEMONADE

MIX ALL TOGETHER. To make the drink, use 1/3 cup mix with 1 quart of water. You can use any flavor drink powder with the lemonade drink powder.

1) Organics.
2) Some fresh fruits - like Clementines. Dh and ds just love them. But I will not buy them at $6.99 a crate. I have started subbing Minneola oranges instead. Ds will eat them but dh is too spoiled having the Clementines. Oh well. Other fruits that are outrageously high. Grapes here a month ago were like $6.99 a lb. I had $7.50 worth and didn't weigh it, when the girl rang it up I told her to put it back. Gosh, I'm not buying diamonds, only grapes for my child
3) Juice. I buy it only on occasion now. Ds will drink water and milk, and eats fresh fruit so that quenches his thirst. He hasn't asked for it either.
4) Usually we'll have an egg/toast night here as well weekly. I read somewhere that if you fry them and have them along with toast, one will fill you up, whereas scrambled, people eat more than one. I thought this was rediculious, until I tried it. They were right. To eat one fried egg fills me up, but one scrambled egg and I'm still hungry.
5) I don't buy things like fruit bowls any more - the serving size ones with juice. We eat fresh fruit and frozen berries as a treat but no more single serving ones.
6) We didn't intend to do this, but last time we bought coffee we bought a medium roast when we really like a lighter roast. To brew it the way we liked, we used less coffee than we usually do and that has saved some $$.

Well, most of the stuff that has increased, I can't cut out. I try to limit thier milk sometimes, but they really love milk, and we go through a gallon a day most days. I try to limit snacks, but my husband will buy them at the corner store if I don't buy them at the grocery store, so I try to buy whatever is on sale. I don't buy pop, unless he specifically asks me to pick it up. I need to get back to baking more so their are things to snack on, but you can't make your own Doritos.
I have found that there is at least some fruit or veggie on sale every week, even organic. So I buy what is on sale. I used to only buy apples during apple season, but then I realized compared to other snacks, even when they cost 3.50 for a 3 lb bag, that is still better than junk food. And apples never go to waste here.

Cottage cheese. I used to buy it every trip, now it's more of a "treat."

Two minute noodles. They went up 50% in two months.
The guys in our house used to eat them for lunch - two at a time, now with them increasing two of them cost more than a loaf of bread - which now is the only thing on offer for lunch.

I'm surprised how many are listing fresh fruit & veggies. I just buy whichever one is on sale/in season. The only frozen ones I buy are corn/peas. I don't like other frozen veggies -too soggy.
I like minneola oranges better than clementines any day.
We buy all our meat out of what DH calls the "buzzard bin." Our grocer has a really good butcher & there are always top steaks, roasts, filet mignons, rib roasts, and ground chuck in that bin for great prices. We buy it up and freeze it.
There really isn't anything we've given up. We rarely buy pop or beer - just for parties. We buy juice when it's on sale & then cut it half and half with water when we pour it. We get a lot at Aldi so that's pretty cheap. I buy our cereal at whole foods as it is cheaper there than at my grocer. We've been grating our own parmesan for 10+ years - just put the chunk in the freezer & grate what you need. Way better than pre-grated.
We don't normally buy snacks - DH is a snacker but he's good with crackers I get cheap at Aldi.

Fresh veggies. Dh has a big vegetable garden, so during the summer and fall we have more than we can handle. We do freeze some, but some just don't freeze well. So, during the winter months, it's frozen veggies for us.

More things we agree on! But my hubby doesn't really eat crackers, unless he is having soup.
