at the grocery store due to the increasing prices? Is there anything that you said "I am not paying that much for that" and found a cheaper alternative or just did without?

snacks! With prices rasing on everything else I don't buy snacks anymore. We needed that anyway, for our waistlines sake!

Some fresh veggies. I just don't want to pay $3 for a green pepper. I've been using more salsa.

I've cut out other areas so I don't have to alter my grocery shopping. No more Starbucks, magazines at the check-out, lunches out, or drive-thru dinners. We have saved so much money with these cut backs. What's even better is that I'm losing weight!

I live in Texas (for only 3 years) where the groceries are cheaper than other areas of the country, so the rise in prices have not put me into shock yet. I can't imagine what prices are like in the northeast (where I'm originally from).

I've stopped buying shredded Parmesan cheese. We don't like the grated Kraft kind, but at $13.79 per pound (I almost fell over when I did the math!), the price of the fresh shredded stuff was just outrageous - and that was at Costco. It's probably more at my regular grocery store. So, I found that wedges of it are $4.30 per pound and I can shred it in my food processor at home. It's still expensive, but we use it sparingly and find the flavor wonderful.

Plus, I learned that you can simmer the Parmesan cheese rind in soups and sauces to add flavor (just remove it before serving). I am going to try this.

Snacks, canned soda, magazines

I also stopped buying some of the fresh veggies.......I use the frozen and have saved money by doing so.

Bread - I'm making that at home and my husband is having to adjust (he likes cheap nasty bread).

same as previous posts, fresh fruits & veggies. i mean $1.00 for 1 cucumber, not the seedless either. unbelievable. i don't waste eggs & milk either. i make a dozen eggs stretch out for 2 weeks. last time i bought them they were $2.10. milk is pushing $4 again. i can't wait for summer to get the garden going.

Snack cakes/sweets. I have started baking more. It is a lot cheaper than buying prepackaged. Also my ds likes his apple juice in small bottles he can get himself. So I bought a six pack about 2 months ago and keep them washed and pour apple jucie in them myself. I save quite a bit doing this.
