We aren't, and it would be hard for us to even try. We have a farm, so a big truck is a necessity (pulling livestock trailers, transporting hay, etc).
I drive a 93 Honda Accord (very economical) and DH has TWO trucks. A 96 Dodge Ram and an 88 GMC (plow truck and misc farm needs). DH also has a work truck which is a HUGE blessing for us with gas prices like they are (he can only drive it to and from work). We usually just insure my car and one of the trucks (the plow truck in winter, Dodge in Spring-Summer-Fall). We are going to try and skip insuring the Dodge for part of the year this year, since my car is adequate until livestock and hay needs hauling this fall.
I drive DD to school and pick her up everyday (7 miles roundtrip) and we are too rural to walk/bike for that. I also drive 30 miles (one way) to see my parents twice per week. Once on Wednesdays and once on the weekend. Their health makes it hard for them to come our way, so we make the drive. I actually drive there TWICE on Wednesdays, as they watch younger DD for me while I volunteer at DDs school and then we go back and pick her up after school.
I would also worry about Dr appts and such, since DH works about an hour away and leaves at 5AM each morning. His hours aren't always exact so it would be very hard to plan on DD's school pick-ups and such. Public transit really isn't an option for us, so we'll probably always have 2 vehicles...not counting DH's work truck.
