I APed out of all the English classes I would have had to take in college. That meant I got to take 3 other classes that I needed early. One I didn't need but was fun...I took repelling and scaled down the buildings on campus. It was fun.

My oldest didn't take the AP courses at the high school, she opted to go to the local community college instead. Here students can take 1 college course per semester in the 10th grade, 2 in the 11th, and 3 in the 12th. She didn't enter Florida schools until the 11th grade so she only ended up with around 30 credits. She still ended up ranked 2nd in her graduating class even without the 10th grade classes. When she got to the University of Florida, she found many students had a lot more credits than she did because they attended summer sessions at the community college and were in the IB programs around the state.

The high school I went to didn't offer AP courses, but the high school where I worked did. They also had a partnership with a community college so juniors and seniors could take one course per semester with a visiting professor.
I know some 10th graders take AP courses, but I don't honestly think many 10th graders are truly capable of college-level work.
Some colleges will actually give you credits depending on your AP exam score; others will allow you to opt out of intro-level courses so you can take more courses in your major.

My dd took an AP class in the 9th & the 10th grade, but they were social studies classes. I'm sure she couldn't have handled math or science AP classes in the lower grades. She has continued her AP social studies classes and added math & science in the 11th & 12th grades.

Here in Colorado if you pass the exam that says you are college ready then the state will reimburse your classes for high schoolers as long as you maintain a C or above average. They do not promote this, you have to ask.

My kids are taking AP classes in high school. Our district requires you to take the ACT or Asset test to qualify for AP. My son was even able to complete an engineering course through U. of Iowa. The best deal was the local community college classes for credit. They only charged $25/year to take unlimited AP classes through the community college. Can't beat that!

I did that. We also had the half day high school half day commmunity college thing too. They still offer it if a student has enough credits early on and a good GPA.

I did, I had 10 credits of English 4 credits of a math and 12 credits in psychology when I graduated HS. I started taking college credit courses in 10th grade. It was great that my high school was able to offer it. They worked with the local technical college to offer all that they could. It saved me 1 full semester when I went to college for my first degree!

I did, but I don't think it saved me any money. I never had to take math again after passing AP Calculus, though.

I did take a college class for high school credit one summer
