Did anyone take the AP classes in high school? You could take a test at the end and get free college credit. I think it's still offered around here...another way to save money on college.

I heard of this. I started to do some research but I still don't know everything about it.

I did. I took AP English and Computer Science (it was still PASCAL that time). I think some high schools here still offer college credit subjects. Some juniors/seniors also have the option of going to college while in high school for certain subjects and that fulfills both hs and college requirements. I know my college roommate did that and now a sister of my ds' soccer teammate is doing it.

I teach in a high school and we still offer AP courses but now also offer IB courses. Same concept just more international. It's a great way for kids to start their freshman year of college with some credits. I know even community colleges accept them.

I never did when I was in school for the simple reason they weren't offered. My DD does have them offered to her and she will be taking a couple AP classes next yr her Junior yr and a couple more in her Senior yr.

My dd who is a HS senior will graduate with 7 AP classes completed, plus she's taking a dual credit English Comp class that is through IU as her HS eng comp class. So theoretically she could start college with a lot of credits already completed. We'll probably take the credits for the english class and the social studies classes, but won't for the science (biology & chemistry) & math (calculus). Even though she could probably test into sophomore level math & science classes, we've been told that it's usually really hard for kids to start with 200 level (sophomore level) math & science classes. We haven't made a definite decision yet, but we're leaning that way. But she still will probably start college with already one semester worth of credits completed at least. I'm very proud of her.

My DS is in 10th grade, he is taking all AP classes this year, except his 2 electives. I'm sure (hoping) he will take AP classes until he graduates.

My 10th grade DS is taking an AP Calculus class this year. His private school is pretty limited in their AP class offerings, but he'll take all that he can.

This is his last math that he can take at his high school . It's the highest they offer. Next year, he'll have to go to a junior college to take a math class. Since our school doesn't have the class, he can go to the JC and take it for free.

Clep Tests. Last I knew they were about 50 bucks. If you pass, you get college credit! It's the greatest thing (if you are smart, brave, or a bit of a gambler!) I clepped out of college English.

Yes, my oldest son is doing this and I think it's great! Some of the classes he's doing already are ones that can give him credits for college and then he'll have to take others on the list also.
