Does anyone here understand the milk pricing? I get confused by all the politics involved. I know that the price isn't driven by supply and demand like we learn in economics. Some places are allowed to make milk a loss leader and some places that is illegal.

From what I can tell, our dairy prices are higher due to the governmental interference. What else is new?

In Abilene, I buy from a certain Alsups because i can get 1% gallon for $2.89. They give out milk stamps so when I have purchased enough milk, I get one free. All Alsups aren't charging the same price though. Some are more expensive than others.

I just paid $3.38 for a 4 litre (which is just slightly larger than a gallon) jug here at the cheapest grocery store I go to. I went to Safeway the other week and they wanted over $3 just for a 2 litre carton (no way was I paying that).

I got it for $3.02/gallon for skim a couple days ago....in IOWA at the grocery store.
I usually try to buy it from Sam's cuz I can get it about 50 cents cheaper than the grocery store...but I wasn't near Sam's and had to have a gallon.

Unless it is on sale at the grocery stores, it runs between $4.28 to $4.48 a gallon. The gas stations I've gone to sell at the same price, not less. When it's on sale, it's normally for $3.50/gallon. The cheapest place I can buy milk is at Sam's for like $3.25/gallon, but I don't make it out there much, it's a little over 30 minutes away from us.

Well, I don't go all over to find the best price, so I usally get it for 3.29 a gallon at Meijer. For some odd reason, it usually costs more at Walmart, and my hubby wont drink Walmart milk. He says it tastes funny. It goes on sale at Meijers at least once a month for about 2.79. I decided to stop in at Krogers today because I was going that way, and their half gallons were on sale for 1.25, so I bought some.
I did see the signs at the milk case (at Meijers)that their are no growth hormones, in their brand of milk, so that was a little reasuring.
I am in on the Horizon Organic Milk with DHA and Omega campaign throuh Buzzagent, and I gotta tell ya, that stuff is sooo good. But I can't afford it normally. It is 3.49 for a half gallon. We go through about a gallon of milk a day, and With 3 teens, a 3 year old and my husband, I can't get them to lay off of it.
