Absolutely. Life is too short not to enjoy it and kids are only young once. Not to mention everyone needs time away to regroup.

Previously I did charge portions of a vacation. My thoughts now, while I love vacation, are not to accumulate more debt. While I may still go before all of my consumer debt is paid off, I believe that I need the saved cash to do so.

Back when we had cc debt,we wouldn't take big ones, but we would take little weekends here and there. We still have car debt but our money is better spent in investments than paying down our cars early, so we don't even take that into consideration when deciding to take a trip.

We have not in the past, but we're going to this year. We have a car loan now, but we DESPERATELY need to get away from it all. That is more important to us at this time than using that money to pay off the car.

"taking a vacation" and just " going someplace" are 2 totally different things. I can "go somplace" any time we feel like it - I'm assuming most people can, especially if they live someplace that has interesting things to see and do. Taking a day trip and going to the beach an hour away, is just going someplace for something to do. Staying with gramma at her house in a town 6 hours away, again is just somplace to go. Most people with some debt still manage to at least leave thier house and see something new and interesting without incurring alot more debt.

"taking a vacation" in my opinion, usually involves things like amusement parks, Airline tickets, hotel, rental car, cruise, ect, ect. Dinseyworld, disneyland, six flags, washington DC, are all my idea of " vacations' because they require a large outlay of money and time to travel there.

If you have debt- IMO you should be gazelle intense in paying your creditors before paying to go to disney. However, a picnic on the beach, and the cost of a kite, sand toys and a hours worth of gas is more reasonable if you have debt.

Ditto! We've skipped my family ski trip for the past couple of years. Of course this is only partially due to debt (last year) and partially due to having small kiddos who can't ski. My family talked about going skiing again this year. My mom offered to watch the boys for us while we ski, but I told them no since we're finally gazelle intense (somewhat) and want to get rid of the debt. Once we pay off the minivan then we should have a few months to save up to go next year! By then we'll for sure get to take our oldest son up with us and possibly our middle son too! I'm also thinking of planning a Debt Free Summer Vacation for our family. I'm looking forward to MANY family vacations and skiping the ski trip this year is well worth it! I know there's an end in sight so I'm all for sacrificing a bit so become debt free first.

We still take vacations when we are in debt. Life is too short not to enjoy new things and get away. We usually go to a couple of Orioles games every year and might stay in a hotel for a night. We also go on a beach trip with DH's family, where we only spend $500 for the house and then we cook all week and split the groceries.

However, at this point I wouldn't feel comfortable reliving our honeymoon again with all the splurging we did...but we are saving up to have a baby-moon before we have the next baby.
