Just wondering....How many still take vacations while still having credit card debt or other consumer debt?

We don't have debt, but even when we had no money (before kids) we'd still take vacations. It's just we went on super, super CHEAP vacations. We'd go visit my Grandma in Chicago a lot and do inexpensive stuff in the city. For our honeymoon, we drove to Colorado and returned some wedding gifts we really didn't want for cash to spend!

I just did. I know we shouldn't have but the way I look at it is life is too short to not enjoy it. DH and I went away alone and reconnected which we really needed. I think a happy marriage is more important than a debt free one. Now I'm back to reality and coupon clipping and deal finding!

I wouldn't go if I could come back to no utilities or something like that. But I would still go otherwise. We have always taken "cheap" vacations and been careful of what we spend. To us vacation is very important. When we were in debt very bad we couldn't go on vacation for two years straight and it just caused alot of stress. We just didn't get a break.

Ok, then is there a difference in "taking vacation time" and "going on vacation". We don't always go somewhere when we take vacation. Sometimes it is nice to sit at home and "do nothing"

Yes, but we pick places that they will enjoy now as children, and might not when they are older. We make a yearly trip to an amusement park 2 hours away for a day. We usually make a trip to a zoo as well. No big vacations like cruises or anything like that because we would have to charge that, and that defeats the purpose of paying down debt. Last summer we went to the Mall of America for the rides and the aquarium. That was a one day trip as well.

I would never charge a vacation. Henceforth, we have never went on one as a whole family. Me and Dh stayed overnight in a hotel together once, and me and the kids went to MN to visit my aunt, but she paid. I think next summer though, we should be able to do it. We will this summer, but it is to visit my aunt again, and if my hubby goes, he probably wont consider it a vacation.

No. Vacations aren't a big deal to me though. I just enjoy hanging out at home together. I would love to be able to take my kids on some nice weekend getaways, but that isn't in the budget right now. We're hoping to take a nice vacation as a family in a few years.
