Do you splurge and stay in more expensive places or are you fine staying in something cheaper like a Super 8?

Usually when we stay in a hotel we don't have time to enjoy things like the weight room, spa etc. We do try and pick one that has a pool however. We usually stay in the cheaper ones like Super 8, except for Las Vegas (but nothing is cheap there ).

We have tons of points due to Dh's travel schedule with work, so luckily, we're usually able to stay at nice places. Sometimes we do even stay at really nice hotels that we actually pay for...just depends on where we're going and what we're doing. I'm not one for a cheap hotel...if it feels gross/dirty to me, I wouldn't be comfortable. That's just the way I am. I've even changed rooms in nice hotels if I felt something was not up to par. I'm very picky.

Well, I have only spent the night with my husband in a hotel once. For that 1 night trip, I didn't mind that cheaper hotel, because it was in an ok neighboorhood, and we were only there for the shopping. I went on vacation with the kids and my mom a couple years ago, and we had an awesome hotel, but I only got a good deal because I did the priceline choose your own deal. I got rooms at the Hyatt Regency Downtown Minneapolis for 45 a night plus tax. Normally around 200 a night. I was happy to have a hotel that had a pool for the kids. Other than that, they are just happy to be in a hotel room and watch the cable.

Since having kids, with them I will only stay in suites with at least one bedroom but I generally can find two bedrooms. I am willing to stay at places that aren't as nice to get the suite but it still has to be decent. If it is just my husband and I, we generally splurge more for the details in the room itself, like the bedding, showers, etc and the atmosphere than the amenities offered at the hotel. We stay at a beautiful place at least once a year near here, but in the heart of downtown. It is so hip and cool. I love being there.

For years my sil worked for a hotel (Marriott) so we were always able to get the friends and family rates. Road trips were mostly Courtyards. Once we stayed at the Residence Inn for 5 days in Philadelphia. I do consider those pretty nice and you could not beat the rates!

Now if were on a road trip we stop at the Welcome Centers in whatever state and try to find a decent rate. Super 8 or wherever unless the place looks shady then we keep going.
Now if we were staying anywhere for more than just a rest stop overnight I think we might invest a little more money to stay somewhere with decent amneities.

Our last vacation was a Disney Resort nice but not fancy by any means! (Valu resort)

I can't stay in a cheap hotel, just the thought of sleeping on something weird grosses me out. It has to be a pretty nice hotel, with a really clean bathroom. I hate doing it, since all I'm usually doing is sleeping, but just the thought of sleeping in a dirty bed makes me never want to vacation. I always bring lysol with me wherever I stay. I'm turning into a germ-o-phobe.

I'll stay at a Holiday Inn Express or a Days Inn or Comfort Inn. That's about as cheap as I would go. Wouldn't do a Super 8. I also will not stay at a strip motel or the type where the door to the room opens directly to the outside. I don't think that is safe.

We will only stay at something like a Holiday Inn or an equal. I refuse to stay at a roach motel to save a few bucks! We do try and do ones that have a pool for the kids and preferrably a contintenial breakfast.
I agree with calimari, on the strip motel or the type where the door to the room opens directly to the outside. I would be too scrared to sleep!

We always stayed at pretty nice hotel because of the line of work DH does, and we get lots of freebies as well.
