We have cable but will probably drop it when the weather gets nicer. When we lived in Augusta, GA we were able to get a package of cable internet (which is what I really wanted) and basic cable for $50 a month, it was $45 for the cable internet by itself so I figured "why not" for just $5 more.
When we moved here a month ago I tried to get basic cable but they only offer extended cable as their "basic". I went ahead and got it because of the weather, we're so not used to the snow and cold. Our cable internet is at a special rate for the next few months and when that goes back up I plan on dropping our cable tv and getting a netflix subscription. For some reason they don't offer a package deal with the cable internet and cable tv and I'm not paying $45 cable internet and $50 for cable tv.

We don't have cable either. My kids tell me I am depriving them but I know that isn't the case. Regular TV is bad enough now that cable would be def out of the question. The only thing my girls really want to watch is Hannah Montana and disney is kind enough to put it on their web site.

On another note when the TV's change in Jan we won't even have that unless we buy new tv's. My poor dh won't go for that but I wonder if it would be nice...........

My dh too! we went without cable for exactly one month and one week before he was hounding me to put it back. To me it was an unneeded bill since the kids and I only turn on the tv to watch dvds and i usually get all my news online anyway. He can't live without Anderson Cooper and Larry King lol

I have digital cable now. But I have not had cable before. When I was living with my exhusband the first year we didnt have cable, We just watched alot of dvds and got a few channels cause we had an old tv that wasnt cable ready. The second time I didnt have cable was when I had my own apartment I had homemade "bunny ears" with a coat hanger some speaker wire and a push pin. Ghetto I know. lol but it worked pretty well.

we got directv a year ago but the year before that we had no cable we did miss it in the winter but not in the summer. we can afford it right now so we will keep it but if we could not we would not have it.. cable and internet is our entertainment budget we don't go to movies or rent them (we get them at the library for free).

we have cable now and just talked last night about dropping it. Or at least get the most basic package-which would not include noggin. I know the kids would miss it. But beings summer is coming soon (I hope!), I do not plan on letting the kids veg in front of the tv all summer long. Although I will not be able to put the older ones in day camp full time, I am hoping to do so maybe two days per week. than on top of the park, the kids swimmng in their pop up pool, free summer library program, swim lessons and tee ball, I am hoping that they will be too busy at least during the day.
We did live without cable for about five years last time. We seem to go in spurts of having cable and than not having cable. I think I will mention to dh again and see what he thinks. He is the hard sell. I can go without, but than I have the kids and the computer to keep me busy.

We dropped cable 6 months ago - had it for HDTV, now even TBS comes in hi-def, so decided against it.
