their vehicle? With the way gas prices have been has anyone traded in the big SUV, van or truck for something smaller or more fuel efficient?

no but we are seriously considering it .. we will need to replace our van this year sometime we are not in dire need just yet so we have time to decide and have fil get a good deal at the auto auctions(he sells used cars).. we are considering a car we have one in a carseat and one in a booster and we can squeeze all three in the back seat of dh's little saturn ls so we could do a midsize car more comfortably plus we are down to one umbrella type light weight stroller so not so much gear to cary around.. when we get ready to buy we are going to consider going back to a 4 door car.

Sort of. When we traded in dh's '96 Nissan pickup last year, we made sure we traded it in for something very, very fuel efficient. The car we traded it for ('07 Toyota Corolla) get's AWESOME gas mileage.

Yes we have. We had a SUV and a 4 doors Jetta. We got rid of the SUV and the Jetta died last month (1998 model). We bought a 2006 4 doors Honda Civic. No more big SUV for us. To expensive to drive and maintain.

Yes, we had a big honky dory Chevy truck, and sold that to buy a Acura Integra (for SO). And I still have the Nissan Sentra (where the car seat stays). So the nissan is the family car.

I don't have a gas guzzler (2003 Toyota Corolla), but I've been thinking of selling it to save money on insurance and gas because I rarely drive it anymore. I have a bus pass which is included as part of my college tuition and I live right on the bus line. I work downtown (the bus stops right in front of where I live) and I go to school nights (the bus goes right to both of my campuses too). The only one really driving it is my husband, but he has his own truck (propane fueled), so as far as I'm concerned he can get that insured and I'll sell my car and pocket the money. He agrees that this is a good idea.

Nope. My SUV is almost pd for and I have had it for about 5 yrs. It only has 33,333 miles on it and is being good to us. I do not travel a lot to worry about gas.

At the end of this year we were planning on buying a large SUV, but we've decided to go for one that is more like a big car..... Honda CRV, Hyundai Tucson, or Mitsubishi Outlander. But I might even changed my mind before that and go with a car, but I would be really disappointed. Here in Southern California I wouldn't feel safe in a smaller car

We are also seriously considering doing this. I just posted about it in the "how many miles on your car thread" and was going to start a thead on it, so I am glad you did. We are thinking about selling dh's Grand Cherokee and buying a small car that gets good gas mileage. I am trying to talk him into an '06 Civic but he is being stubborn. He says if he is going to go smaller he wants it to look sporty. I am researching to try to find something that fits this category and still gets at least 25mpg. Anyone have any suggestions for me? I think we could get $16k for his car and I would like to spend around 12k for a replacement and I don't want it to be more than a few years old. He likes that Scion tc but it only averages 20mpg in the city, which isn't great for such a little car. He also likes the small Acuras but same deal with the gas mileage.

We really would but with four kids we have to have a suv or van. And vans are better on gas than the suv. After my husbands accident (he totalled his truck) a few weeks ago, he wants a geo metro. Those are great on gas and cheap. But I think he will end up with another truck.
