I'm extremely lucky to have the elementary school in walking distance and a park in walking distance. The only other traveling I should have to do is when I need to run errands. Luckily the stores aren't far.

For us it means no summer track. My kids all run track in the summer but it takes two tanks of gas a week to do this. Practice every night and the meets are never really close. It also means we wont be going to Colorado this summer. We might be able to go and do something but it will have to be very local.

I am more scared about the prices of everything else due to the price in gas increase. I know that everyone will just pass the cost on down to us.

I live in a rural area as well and our local groc. store prices are ridiculous. I was making a weekly shopping trip to super walmart (about 30 miles away ) but I've cut back to every other week and go about 20 miles to a Fareway weekly ( if I really need to). I'm trying to keep dh from running (driving) up to the store 2x or more a day to pick up one thing. When it gets warmer out, I plan on taking dd to school in the bike trailer and using that for errands around town if possible.

I have everything I need within walking distance — parks, preschool, elementary school, church, grocery store, cvs, dry cleaners, etc.

Yesterday the kids and I walked up to the grocery store to pick up a newspaper and then walked over to McDonalds for lunch as a special treat. They loved it! What a novelty to walk!

Target, the gym, library, pool, and various clothing stores are all within 2 miles in the same direction from home. I've consolidated trips, so it's only one time out per day if I go out at all.

My goal is to fill the Expedition only 1 time per month. We're budgeted for 3 fills per month. I like to see how much I can save and then put the difference towards debt.

DH works 20 miles from home, reverse commute. However, he's traveling a lot in the next few months, so he won't be driving much at all. So, we'll save some money there also.

well dh drives 62 miles round trip m-sat for work luckily he only fills up once a week and gets over 30 mpg so that helps... what will $4 bucks mean for us.. well if we have to go anywhere we will be driving the small saturn its a squeeze but its cheaper and i will only go to town once a week hit the library and do groceries then anything else we need there is a fareway hy-vee walmart and aldis all within a 1/2 mile from dh's work or we can walk to our town grocer for a few quick things its cheaper than driving to town. i gess just being prepared and on top of things to avoid extra trips we can walk to school here soon the weather is getting nicer and we can walk ds to summer school this summer as well.

We are extremley blessed here, with Dh's job he gets gas remb. because he takes clients to and from dr.s appts, community things etc. So he gets a 80% return on all milage he uses tranfered into money remb. it is so nice, we figured out that last month we only paid like 150.00 for gas out of our pocket and I was thrilled!!

I also drive slower on the interstate to work on the weekends. You get better gas mileage if you go 55-65, over that and you get less miles per gallon. I read it once in a book, and checked it out in my own experiment one weekend. I do notice more people going slower (the speed limit is 70) when the price of gas goes up.

I'm going to see if there is anything we are running low on in the pantry. Hopefully I can stockpile some things now so I don't have to pay more this summer when the trickle down effect makes food prices go up even more.

I'm more worried about this than I am about filling up my car.

With gas eventually going up to $4 (and possibly $5), I'm so thankful that my dh and I had the forethought to buy a Corolla. We could have bought something way cooler, but we decided that fuel economy trumped coolness.

With $4 per gallon gas, I calculated that I'll be spending less than $30 to fill up my car, so the financial hit for me won't be too bad. God help us if gas actually reaches $5 per gallon. I'm afraid the economy would collapse. Not only would people not be able to afford to fill up their cars, they won't be able to shop at the grocery store either since the price of food will go up.

It means fewer mall trips for me. I live an hour and a half away from the nearest mall, so I have to spend about 30 bucks to get there and get home. I only go about 4 times a year now. The gas hike will probably add another 10 bucks to that. That means more online shopping for me!

I am also afraid of what it's going to do to food prices

I have noticed since after Christmas if I don't have a full tank, I drive less. So I do NOT fill the tank all the way. Just half or less. I also drive down to my parents alot (3 hours away). So gas is going to be rough. I live in the city, so groceries, job, library, school's, are close but it does add up. NOT CLOSE ENOUGH TO WALK THOUGH So weekly errand trips it will be for us.
