I do worry, not so much for myself and dh but for the people on fixed income.

A lot of older people have to budget or do without food to pay for their med. if their familys don't step in and pay it for them.

A lot of families with limited income are already max out, and i wonder just how much more they will have to put up with before it gets any better.

I do think the media tends to be more involved than just reporting. Sometimes they fuel the fire. Like, when we hear reports of the stock market tanking. Many people immediately sell their stocks, and cause the markets to fall even more.

my dh has a pretty secure job in managing credit card collections dept, so I doubt he would lose his job, I am a licensed nurse, so I could take that anywhere in the world, so I really dont worry, but even aside from that... I think, whats the worse that could happen? As long as we are together, I could be fine with sleeping in a car if thats what it came to...kwim???

I recently heard Dave Ramsey say that we are not in a recession. He did define what has to happen in order for it to be a actual recession, but I don't remember what that was.

I'm in Northern Michigan and the prices on food and gas are really having an impact on our household. I've just been in shock how much groceries have gone up. I'm so close to being debt free except for the house and I've had to reevaluate the budget to accomodate food and gas prices. We are now going no where and buying no extra's.

I am afraid. All we can do is do what's best for ourselves. We all know where we could cut corners if we had to and many of us on here know how to cook from scratch and have a stockpile. All we can do is ride the wave the best we can until it's over. Unfortunately I don't think it will be over for a long time

I'm afraid as well. I think we are just going to do what my grandparents did during the depression. She said "you just learned how to live with less". Great motto I say.

I wouldn't say I'm afraid, more aware of the situation. Being scared is not going to do me no good right now so I try to stay positive. Food is expensive? Good, maybe I'll finally be able to loose those 10 lbs...
I try to really think about what I buy right now and only buy what I really need. I don't waste my money on cheap knick knacks anymore that will land in the trash after a while anyway.
Another thing I'm trying to do right now is learn about how to be more independent from stores. I think somebody on this board mentioned a while back, that if we really have another depression we'd be pretty lost because we don't know the stuff our grandparents knew anymore. So, I'm learning how to garden (prefer. heirlooms), can stuff, make my own jam and lots of other things from scratch.

Tonight for dinner we had corn, tomatoes and peppers that I grew in my garden last year. For dessert we had apple bars made from apples that I picked and froze from one of our trees. It does feel good to know I have some control over our food supply.

DH and I were thinking we will take some portion of our tax rebate and use for stocking up.

It's really hard not to worry. Our economy here in Wyoming is probably about the best in the country, and I'm still worried about what we would do if my husband or a family member lost a job. I'm really concerned about my in-laws, because they have nothing saved at all. I guess they would come live with us, and we would all go crazy. Speaking of Wyoming-if anyone needs a job that pays really well and they don't mind the wind, come on out. The oil and coal industries are going nuts, at least for now.
