We bought shoes at Payless yesterday and even the prices there have jumped up since last season. Shoes that used to be $12.95 or $14.95 are now $17.99. Anyone else notice an increase in the price of shoes?

I didnt even notice, but will have to pay attention next time. We just got the older boys some shoes, but luckily I got them at the place where I work so I got my discount plus they were b1, g1 1/2 off. So that helped a lot.

Yes! I was so irritated because my son's shoes were $35. I didn't look at the price when he was choosing them, but when they rang up that price I about had a heart attack. I know that I could have done better somewhere else.

I don't think Payless is that great of a deal anymore.

I agree about Payless not being that great a deal anymore. I used to go in there for dress-up shoes that DD would wear once or twice, but I actually got mary janes at the Stride Rite Outlet for $14.99 last fall. We also got her two pairs of Stride Rite shoes for $19.99 each in January. For the minimal price difference, Stride Rite is much better quality (they last much longer) and fit her feet better.

I thought payless was expensive, too. I went there a few weeks ago to get my oldest a pair of dress shoes and sneakers. If I had more time to shop around, I'm sure I could've found something cheaper on sale. I needed her to try them on and didn't have all day to shop.

UGH, i've noticed the price of ... well, everything, go up!
Payless is supposed to be inexpensive.. and i guess they still are bec. their competitors also raised their priceses so payless is still "cheaper."

i refuse to go to Payless... i usually find that it's cheaper to hit the "name brand" shoe stores when they have shoes on sale

I agree that payless has gone up, but I also found that their quality is better. They now carry more name brands like Champion and others. DId you know that you can search for deals on their website and then have them delivered to your local strore for free? Not a bad arrangement if you can find a sale on-line....

I feel so lucky having gotten my kids summer sandals at WM for $4 ea. in January (yeah, way early, but for that price why not??!!)

One more tip - did you know that you can use your AAA card to get a discount on full-priced shoes (not sale) at Payless? I think the discount is 10%... every little bit helps!!
