I was going through the budget last night and I noticed that we have spent more money on gas this month than we did food. I couldn't believe it! I can shop for really good deals on food but what am I suppose to do about gas??? Its killing me, I don't do any running around on the roads or anything and its still costing way too much. I'm fixing to buy a horse....

It is absolutely ridiculous! I think more and more about my driving habits before I go. For example I was going to run to the store to pick up a few grocery items this morning but then remembered I will be heading that way later today so I'll do it then rather than making 2 trips.

WOW!! I'm shocked by that. We don't spend NEARLY as much money on gas as food. Do you have to travel a long distance to get places? I don't fill up my vehicle but once a wk or less. We certainly spend more on groceries than a tank of gas costs. But maybe I just don't drive as much. WOW...still amazed by that.

Great idea!

Gas prices are painful right now. I feel like I hardly go out anymore and I'm walking more than I ever have! We started to car pool with friends when we go places, go out less, walk the kids to and from school every day (even in the rain .. it's a mile each way). I have an errand day once a week, started going to the closest grocery store, car pooled with my mother to get groceries (we take turns driving). I'm wishing we had a hybrid.

No I really don't go that far at all. Work is local and so are all the stores. The farthest we go is every other weekend to pick up the step kids and it about 20 miles each way. All I know is I'm going to have to do something.....

I just picked last month arbitrarily to see what we spend (since we cant really control it) and we paid $435 dollars in gas in one month!!! $600 in food. My credit card bill was $1200....so we really didn't spend on anything else. I never would have guessed it was that much in gas either....and its only going to get worse since spring sports are starting up and we'll have to travel to other cities since my 3 are in travel sports...ugh!

When I was looking at our budget last night it was for the past 3 weeks and so far $120.00 in gas and 90.00 in food. I would have never thought that I was spending more on gas.

!! I'm not a huge fan of credit cards but maybe you should look into one that offers a percentage cash back when you buy fuel. If you used it only to fill up and paid it off every month you could possibly save some $$.

We're having the same problem . . . $400 a month on gas, and only about $250 for groceries. Thank goodness I can use coupons and save at the grocery store, or we would really be in the poor house by now!
