hello... i had my yearly review today, and i got a fairly good raise, which works out to about 200/month more. if you had the extra money, what would you do with it? (aside from student loan debt which is being covered by an inheritance, and i have no consumer debt)

first,, congrats! That is a nice raise.

I'd put it immediately going into something interest earning, so I didn't get 'used' to it

I'd put it in a vacation fund and start building it up month by month. We haven't taken a big vacation since we went to the Dominican Republic in 2005.

If we had an extra $200, we would start a home improvement fund.

I would put it into a retirement fund. Roth IRA or other. I am starting to do this June as I reorganized my finances and realized I am only 18 years from retirement and want to live a little better then.

We would put it towards building up our emergency fund.

$200/month would be helpful but still disappear into our budget, as right now we are putting off necessary expenses (like dentist visits, etc) to just barely scrape by. So we would still be just barely scraping by. Kind of depressing.

First of all ~ Congrats!

Second ~ Like Sarah - it would disappear into our budget too.

I agree it would disapper so fast. First I would increase retirement savings a little and then throw the rest at CC debt.
