We haven't changed our driving habits, but I can tell you that lots of people in our area have. We've been making a 110 mile trek every weekday for my radiation treatments, and we always get behind lots of people driving 5-10 mph under the speed limit. We couldn't figure out why everyone has been driving so slow, but, now that I've read this thread,I bet it has to do with saving on gas!

I usually drive the speed limit anyway, so I must be saving, but I didn't know it!

Yup.

I used to drive 3-5 over the limit on the highway, but now usually amdriving 65 or maybe up to 70, sometimes. If I find a couple people doing between 60 and 65, I'll tack on behind them and use their drag to help me. On other roads, 55mph and under, I drive the limit exactly.

I can see the difference. When driving 75, my RPMs run about 2300. At 70, they are 2100. At 65 they are 1900. If I can get some good drag, or when going 55, I can get 1700. That's about 20% better than at 75 mph - that's 20% better gas usage - 20% savings. Can't beat that with a stick! I drive a small truck. I've done the same with DH's (bigger) truck, and the RPMs are about the same.

A LOT of people here are starting to drive slower - I'm also seeing a lot more people tacking on behind semi's and getting a little train going. Just remember not to tailgate - yes the drag is better, but it can get you a ticket and is dangerous!

Our interstate is 60 but I used to drive 70. I have been trying to drive the speed limit. The other important thing to remember is no punching the gas and then the break. It also uses more gas and it has the wear and tear on your car's breaks, etc.
