I would totally just go myself. Somethings are just too important.

I am Sorry !!

This is one of those Moments though , That I Wouldn't Mind more Debt - if I Could Have the Priceless Memories of Seeing My family and them seeing My Baby.

I Agree with Trying to Go Cheaper and Maybe Go Alone without Dh.

Thanks for all your thoughts. Maybe I can talk my DH into letting me go with my DS here soon. I like the idea of setting money aside (if we can) and doing something when we get some money. You have encouraged a newbie. I appreciate it!

Another way to look at it, so you won't feel so bummed, is .. if you wait another year to travel, your child will be a bit older, and might even remember the family a bit more. Or, maybe someone in your family can come out and visit you this summer, while you save up to visit them next year?? Of course the 90 y/o grandma couldn't come, but maybe someone else could??
I'd sure ask.

Just a couple thoughts from someone who's in the same boat (slaying the debt, want to visit family in Northeast Indiana, we're in FL, and our brakes just went!):

You might want to check out clarkhoward.com: Topics

Take a look at his links in the "Cars" topic and "Travel".

Second piece of advice---And this is what is letting us survive this mess---We've done the Dave Ramsey budget for our Debt Snowball. Get a copy of Total Money Makeover from your library today. We are budgeting for the IN trip. Plus, when the brakes went kaput, we had a tiny little "emergency" fund to handle it. Granted, now we have to replace our little "cushion", but we won't have to charge the repairs.

I hope this helps. Hang in there!

I am very sorry to hear that - family out of town is always tough. I am sure that they understand.

Good luck with the car repairs - hope they don't add up to more then you are expecting.
