When my husband quit drinking in October, I saw dollar signs. I thought of all the money we were going to save with him NOT buying alcohol every day. I am so willing to look at things he can cut out to save money, I rarely look at my own extras.

I have been a pop drinker for as long as I can remember. As a teenager I had been known to drink 6 cans in one day. I didn't realize this was not normal until a home ec class when we had to write down every thing we ate and drank in a day. Just last week I realized I was drinking 8-12 24oz bottles of Diet Mt. Dew every day. That is $2,184 a year.

My biggest concern about cutting down and possibly quitting was the caffeine withdrawal and headaches. I cut down to 4 bottles on Monday with no headaches. On Wednesday I bought a 12 pack of cans. I have had a few headaches, but would take ibuprofin and then drink a can of pop. I've been refilling an Aquafina bottle with water, drinking green tea and then my occasional diet mt. dew throughout the day. I'm going to try to cut down to 1 or 2 bottles a day.

We didn't have enough space to store 2 weeks worth of pop bottles to wait for recycling to pick it up, so when that was full, I would throw the bottles away. Our trash barrel was full after 3 days.

This is saving money, the earth and my health. I can't believe it took me so long to get the willpower to do this.

Wow, that's great that you're cutting down! I know it takes a lot of will power, though. Think more dollar signs! And water and green tea are so much healthier too, you'll feel so much better.

OMG ChickyHip, This is way too weird. I was drinking an 8pk of mountain dew a day and on Easter decided that I was finally going to give it up. I first decided to go cold Turkey but after two days of horrible headaches, I caved and had one 16.9 oz mountain dew. Then I thought if I could just drink one a day until I didn't crave it anymore. I too walk around with a water bottle that I just keep refilling. I can't believe how much money I saved these two weeks. And to think I harassed dh alot about all the money he spent on his smoking and occasional beers. So from someone who totally knows how difficult kicking this habit is, here is a really big CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I've been trying to cut back on diet coke as well! I just hate being dependent on something. I would get home from class and head straight to the fridge because I needed that "fix!"

Good luck!!

I kicked my 6 can a day Pepsi habit last year, it was hard, the headaches were awful. Not only did I save my family money, I lost 12 lbs in the first 2 months. Good luck!!

Good good good! It is so good for you. I am into Diet Coke myself and I get mad at how much money I waste on it. One of these days I'll find your strength
....make sure you pass it on.
