OK....here's the scoop. I will be having my third baby here on the 23rd, which doesn't leave a lot of money. I have a sister that is graduating this year (she lives in MT...me PA) I was thinking of getting her a nice picture frame and a picture of her to go in it. And mothers day is coming up...I was thinking of having my girls color a sign that says "Happy Mothers Day". Take a picture of them holding it and make a card out of the picture. Does this sound really cheap? I was going to do a college box for my sister ...but I guess she doesn't want to go to college and I will not send her money because she is very greedy. Help....

Well for the Mother's Day gift I think that is perfect! But is your sister perhaps about to move out into her own place? If so she might find the money you would spend on a nice picture and frame more useful if it went to say a simple sheet set or a set of inexpensive pans, etc. If she isn't moving out she probably is taking a lot of pictures these days and perhaps could use a cute photo album. Just personally I wouldn't know what to do with a picture of just myself

My #1 rule though--- Never be ashamed of being responsible with money. If they truely love you they would not want you to go into debt or risk retirement over a gift.

Best of luck with your decision! -- Ann

My sister doesn't have any plans for college (which she could be going) and she doesn't plan on getting a job or moving out...I thought about a picture from graduation with her friends or something...I'm not sure.
Thanks for your input!

I think it sounds like a good idea. A nice picture frame with a picture of your kids would be cool. My sister is always hounding me for pictures of Noah. So I am sure she would love it or a picture of her and her friends would work as well

Ok so thinking back to what it was like to be a teenager and honestly, I don't know what I would do with a picture of myself. Are you going to have to mail it to her? Maybe instead you could purchase an e-gift card to a site that she could download her favorite songs (don't know of any 'cause I've never done it!) Just a thought! If you really want to give her a pic, maybe you could use the same idea as your mother's day gift. A pic of your kids would probably mean more. OR a pic of you and her! (if you have one, I know it can be tough when you live that far apart).

I'll try to be tactful in my response. Picture frames can come off as cheap if you have the money to buy something else. Obviously, if you don't have the means, a picture frame is perfect. I think any gift you give you should give with a clear conscious, give what you feel is appropriate for you to give, no regrets. If you have regrets, it may come off as cheap.

The mother's day idea sounds great. But I have to agree about the frame, I'd try to think of something else for your sister. She doesn't know if she's going to college or not? Not planning on moving out or even getting a job???! How is she planning on living? Maybe a nice hardcover self help book would be appropriate!

I like the Mother's Day idea. I liked the idea of getting her a picture of the two of you. Do you have a pic. from when you were little?

I am going to agree. I got a lot of picture frames for graduation that I really don't use. 10 years later they are all put in a box. Still I don't know what your budget is But I would go for something she may actually use or maybe an experience. Have you thought about just spending the day with your sis to celebrate her graduation. Nice Lunch some shopping or a walk, girl talk etc.

If you do go with a frame I would go with a photo of the two of you too. I have a photo of me and my sister up on my mantel but more its the time we spend together that was always more important then what we gave each other
