My family has a list that stays at my mothers. It has all our sizes and wishes on it. When it gets near a holiday or birthday we can go to moms and look at the list to see what is on the list for that person. My mother came up with this years ago and we all love it because we can shop early for gifts. When someone buys the gift mom removes it from the list. If you have a new wish mom will add it so no one see what has been bought on their list except mom. For DH,DD,DS and I are items that we need, like at Christmas, I got kitchen items, bowls, cookware, towels, etc. DH got screwdrivers, garden tools, etc. DD and DS got clothes, shoes, and things for their room like new drapes and sheets. My DS got camo sheets and he loved them. You can't beat gifts like that!

I have told my family and friends that for my birthday.....I would just love to get together for coffee and cake. No birthday gifts. I have so much and I really, really don't need any more.

I am trying to clean up and it just adds more.

Not quite sure yet if it has worked as my birthday was the other day and haven't seen anyone yet (well, I've seen dh, dd, mil).

I told them that I don't mind buying but I just don't really need anything.

Time will tell if it worked.

That's such a great idea! I wish my family could do something like that. I think it would work on everyone except my brother. He's the type that buys what he wants if he finds a good deal. So very frustrating.

I always ask for gift certificates for my birthday or Christmas. I am a die-hard scrapbooker, so that's one way to get my "fix" without affecting our family budget.
