There is nothing I really need so I'm thinking when people ask what I want for my birthday I'll just ask for gift certificates that I can use. Maybe a Cost Cutters one so I can get my hair highlighted. I don't have a problem spending birthday cash on groceries or gas either.
Does anyone else ask for practical things they can use for their birthdays if there is really nothing you need and money is tight anyways?

I basically only get gifts from my sister and parents, and I would feel guilty asking for gift cards. I don't like to give gift cards either since I cannot get them on clearance!

I don't normally get anything for my b-day from anyone. Isn't that sad? LOL

I always ask my sister for a prepaid visa for my birthday or Christmas that way I can use it online and pick out what I want. If I let her pick I would have some funky clothes lol. She doesnt mind.

I don't really 'ask' for anything...the people that give me gifts for my birthday don't ask for ideas.

I definately would not feel bad if people are asking for ideas! Don't know if that is a bad thing or not - but especially if they are close to you(ie family) I would just say "boy, I don't know... you know what, I would love to get my hair done, so maybe like $10 gift card that I could use towards that?"

Good Luck!!!

I suggest gift cards when asked. Otherwise, I don't spend money on myself! Also, my mom likes to give very practical gifts so I'm usually very specific with her about stuff I need. She loves to hunt down deals on whatever it is I need. Its nice that I don't have to do the legwork! And she enjoys it.

I only give gift cards for gas to my bbsitters. Other than that I enjoy buying the gift very much. I have never asked for a gift card, but i think if you word it right it would be fine. I guess you should preface by saying oh you don't need to get me anything but,,,, if you'd like just pick me up a gift card I could use a ....haircut or massage or whatever you wish to insert.

I rec'd one from my newly div BIL and my DD pointed out, I don't buy anything unless it is on deep discount, but I found something I really wanted, full price! $65 sweater from Lands End. I bought it and I love it. I would not have purchased it otherwise. So I am a good candidate to recieve them I guess.
