Wow...that's a lot to cram into 4/5 days! How are you getting from each place...? Driving?

We were recently in DC and I would definly use the metro . It is clean and easy to get around the city. It is best to park outside the city and take the metro in.

Traffic is horrible in DC. WE went to the zoo recently and even though they have some exhibits close due to renovations we still had a good time. For us though the zoo was sort of like the ones we have at home except for the pandas. That was the only differance.

I have done niagra falls as a teenager and i still remeber taking the maid of the mist underneath the falls..I would say that would be a must do if they are still running it.

Hope you have fun....For new york definly do battery park with the ferry ride to the statue of liberity..and central park...and if you have a girl they have the american girl doll place there.

Have fun!

I agree that's a lot to squeeze in just a few days. We did Washington DC several years ago, and the good thing is that most of the "entertainment" is free..the National Zoo, Smithsonian Museums, Arlington Cemetery, the monuments, etc. We spent about 4 days just there. We stayed in Arlington VA because it was much cheaper than downtown Washington DC and we took the subway in every day.

I haven't been to Niagara Falls in a few years but I don't live that far away. The American side of the Falls is considered the more natural side. If you head to Goat Island you will be right by the water. The Niagara Power Authority is fairly close and has a free, updated information center. There is a small aquarium in the city. There is also a new casino that has very good concerts and shows. Most companies have left the area so the American side is slightly depressed.

The Canadian side built a few casinos too and development really took off. I believe there is an I-MAX theatre and some kind of Amazon Rainforest Bird Walk.

The Canadian side actually has the better view but you can get right by the water on the American side. You can park your car and walk over the Rainbow Bridge (it's a long way down from the U.S. to Canada. In Canada, the Cave of the Winds takes you to the base of the Falls - it's cool.

They put lights on the Falls at night and it's very pretty.

If you plan to visit the Canadian side BE PREPARED WITH THE CORRECT DOCUMENTATION. The officials on both sides are very tough w/documentation - even for children.

P.S. Like most "natives" I have never been on the "Maid of the Mist". (Isn't that always the way w/local attractions?) But it's still going strong and everyone seems to like it.

Enjoy!

Sorry, I haven't been up there in a few years so I'm not sure which hotels are there.

We're going to Wash DC next month. I got a great deal on a hotel in Arlington - right by the Metro - on travelzoo.com.
