I need some ideas for a project that involves Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University. If you don't know how this program works...the workbook has 13 lessons dealing with different aspects of financial life. My fiance says that once a week is not enough to keep the ball rolling on paying off debt and being better with our money. So we had the idea to have a project with a different task each day that relate to the lessons, used in rotation. So here is a list of the lessons and please add your suggestions for daily tasks.
Example: charity - donate one item to hospital

1. Savings and an Emergency Fund
2. Relating with your Partner about Money
3. Budgeting
4. Getting Rid of Debt
5. Dealing with Credit Bureaus and Collections
6. Marketing Tactics - Watching for Them
7. Insurance
8. Getting Good Bargains
9. Investments
10. Retirement and Saving for Kids' College
11. Careers and Extra Jobs
12. Real Estate and Mortgages
13. Generous Giving

I know this may seem vague, please let me know if I need to elaborate.

I'm not sure I understand...sorry.
but, do you mean, that every single day, you have to do something regarding the chapter you are on...
*some days you will not have any "tasks"
that would be exhausting!
i would make a budget for saving and paying debt...
write up the rules regarding $$ that you and your hubby have to follow...
etc...
but my life is so stressful sometimes, i try to simplify it...this project seems unnecessary...
JMO, dont' get mad

I agree with this poster. What an ordeal to have to focus on a task everyday. Just work the DR plan as perscribed and all will be well.

I can understand that you think the added stress of tasks would be worse, but we need a daily motivation and to see our work in progress. When our class rolls around every week, we walk away feeling super excited with gazelle intensity, but when it gets around the week we lose momentum. I was just looking for some ideas to keep the ball rolling.

We make it a game every day to see that we can add a $0 in for the day on the calendar. That keeps us on track. We also "reward" ourselves if we resist temptation. (i.e. last week I wanted take out pizza ~ but dh talked me out of it - we took that $15 that we would have spent towards pizza & put it that day on our "snowball" cc.) Or I have started to blog once a day - that keeps me on track ~ sort of holds me accountable for my actions & spending.

I think that the previous mommies (& myself included) just hate to see you end up getting overwhelmed & then giving up all together.

Good Luck to you!

You can decide how they relate to your chapters or goals....but here's some things we do quite often to keep us moving in the right direction and motivated.

1. Listen to Dave Ramsey's show online every day.
2. Discuss if we have to buy something the "bargain" we got and how much we saved by researching or being careful.
3. Visit Mommysavers and read posts!
4. Look at my debt pay off sheet every day...to keep it top of mind.
5. Look at my bank balance at least 2-3 times a week, is there any extra $ at all that could be allocated to a debt.
6. Declutter a room, closet, drawer...it makes me feel better and keeps me focused on not buying MORE STUFF!
7. Take a load of stuff to Goodwill
8. Pack a box full of stuff throughout the house for our Summer garage sale.
9. Talk about and make fun of TV commercials and how they are trying to talk people into buying things they DON'T NEED!
10. Plan a week's worth or months worth of meals, so you're not tempted to eat out.

I have read his books twice and we are incorporating his ideas also. This may be silly but we have a big poster(kids helped make it) with our snowball/debt payoff posted on fridge for everyone to see. (especially mom and dad) Lots of questions when we have playdates though. We also have some inspirational little sayings from his books to help us motivate. We have already paid off 1/2 the poster so when we get frustrated we just try to look at how far we have come already. Good luck!

Wow! I am definitely going to use a lot of these suggestions. Thanks,

Ahhh.. I feel better! Thanks so much for the suggestions. Since some other members seem interested as well, I will post some of the ideas that I had. These not only relate to FPU but to living frugally which helps us pay off debt!

1. Make a donation to a local charity whether it be 3 bucks or a a bag of clothes.
2. Turn off the TV for 3 hours.
3. Play a game of baseball.
4. Put up a bible passage that is suggested in the book as a an affirmation.
5. Go looking for change! (We do quite well on this!)
6. Pick a bill and try to lower it, whether it be shopping around or using less of it.
7. Invite some family over for dinner. Guarantees that you will cook and prevents them from inviting you out to eat! (BIG problem at our house)
8. Pick something off my frugal list - I have a big notebook of random frugal ideas that I have collected and when I have time I just pick one and work on it. Then I cross it off when I make it a habit, i.e. washing out ziploc bags.

Ok so that is my mini list that I will add to your suggestions as well. My fiance comes home Tuesday and I will be armed and ready! P.S. I love the poster idea! Way better than my little printout that gets lost on the fridge.
